Is it too early to say that disinformation won?
Nobel laureate and Rappler CEO @mariaressa: We've been saying this for years, and data backs that. What we've seen is death by a thousand cuts of history.
LIVE:
@mariaressa Rappler digital forensics and research specialist @paulinemacaraeg underscores findings on disinformation networks on social media: The Marcos network has existed as early as 2014. They've been pushing narratives about the supposed legacy of Marcos admin.
@mariaressa@paulinemacaraeg LOOK: Online share of voice of presidential candidates. Leni Robredo leads by only a small margin.
@mariaressa@paulinemacaraeg .@jnery_newsstand: That's the reason why Marcos Jr. invited people to find out the truth themselves because he already has this infrastructure of disinformation that's ready to trap people inside this "Fortress Marcos."
LIVE:
@mariaressa@paulinemacaraeg@jnery_newsstand TikTok Philippines public policy head Kristoff Rada: We make sure that all the major news organizations are on TikTok, that's our way to help balance out the conversation. What we want to see is really authentic expressions, and that includes political expressions.
@mariaressa@paulinemacaraeg@jnery_newsstand ICFJ global director of research @julieposetti: The past 24 hours has indicated the platforms as vectors, enablers, facilitatators of dinsinformation really are culpable to an extent of this systemic problem.
@mariaressa@paulinemacaraeg@jnery_newsstand@julieposetti@gelogonzales86 Rada explains the TikTok algorithm: It predicts what you might like. It also relies on your input. That's why we're saying if you feel like there's sort of a campaign, please let us know. Because from where we sit, we can't see that.
LIVE:
@mariaressa@paulinemacaraeg@jnery_newsstand@julieposetti@gelogonzales86 .@julieposetti: Algorithms are not innocent. Suggesting that the point of correction should be at the level of community and news orgs alerting a platform to a crisis of disinformation, it's important to understand that there is a responsibility on the part of the platform.
@mariaressa@paulinemacaraeg@jnery_newsstand@julieposetti@gelogonzales86 Rada: On the point of algorithms, there is a lot of risk that can be caused, but I also look at the other side of the coin. There's also much potential for you to spread good messages. We've actively encouraged credible orgs, academics, who can share these pieces of info.
@mariaressa@paulinemacaraeg@jnery_newsstand@julieposetti@gelogonzales86 .@julieposetti: But how is it a counter-balance when you have weaponized hate and troll factories, and you have viral disinfo being distributed with false intent, on the other hand you have credible, reliable info, which is not necessarily being spread to the same extent.

BREAKING NEWS: A day after the elections, Comelec JUNKS with finality four appeals against the candidacy of presumptive presidential race winner Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Petitioners can make one last appeal to the Supreme Court. | via @newsdwight#PHVote
@newsdwight The four appeals are part of a two set of cases (the first one, a DQ petition; the second one, a COC cancellation petition). In dismissing the cases, the Comelec en banc says petitioners failed to raise new matters that would warrant the reversal of its earlier rulings.
FULL STORY HERE: The Comelec en banc's decision does not come as a surprise, but the timing of the release means the poll body failed to deliver on its promise to resolve the high-profile case before elections. rappler.com/nation/electio…
