1/ The first and most necessary step is to overcome our fear. For fear, as Heidegger notes, “bewilders us and makes us ‘lose our heads’.”

2/ Incapacitated by fear in 2020, we discarded clear scientific data from credible authorities and instead swallowed uncritically incredible claims that made little pretense to scientific rigor.

3/ My clinical experience treating patients who are paralyzed by anxiety taught me we cannot reason clearly or act well when we are afraid. It is not by chance that we find the crystalline admonishment, “be not afraid,” repeated more than a hundred times in the Bible.

1/ Regarding Klaus Schwab and the WEF: Schwab—along with his associates at the WEF—is not so much an evil genius manipulating the levers of power from a smoke-filled resort room in Davos.

2/ He is more like a cartoonish mascot, a garish distillation and personification of a widely shared ideology and an ambitious agenda embraced by many corporate, tech, finance, and political power brokers with globalist pretentions.

3/ That these elite power brokers’ institutions and interests often interlock, that they meet regularly in Davos, a resort in the Swiss Aps, to plan and coordinate their efforts, should come as no surprise.

1/ It is instructive to reflect on the chosen term, social distancing, which is not a medical term but a political one. A medical or scientific paradigm would have deployed a term like physical distancing or personal distancing, but not social distancing.

2/ The word social communicates that this is a new paradigm for organizing society, one that limits human interactions by six feet of space and masks that cover the face, our locus of interpersonal connection and communication.

3/ The six-foot distancing rule was supposedly premised on the spread of covid through respiratory droplets, though the practice continued even after it became clear that it spread through aerosolized mechanisms.

1/ The World Health Organization (WHO) was established in 1948 as the health policy body within the UN and was given the mission to “direct and coordinate the world’s response to health emergencies.”

2/ Many worry that its mission has become hopelessly compromised by strong reliance on funding from China and from private benefactors (Bill Gates’s foundation funds 13% of its budget—more than the government of the United States).

3/ The WHO was slow to call for a comprehensive investigation on the origins of the virus. The WHO’s director praised the early 2020 lockdowns in Wuhan.

1/ The funding of scientific research cannot be controlled by a small cabal of insiders at the NIH, many of whom stay in power for decades, acting like presidents in a Banana Republic who never face reelection challenges.

2/ This allows the likes of Anthony Fauci to exercise undue control over primary investigators and their teams of university researchers, shaping the entire research agenda for a generation or more. There are many potential approaches to breaking up this monopoly.

3/ I suggest federal block grants to states to fund scientific research, so that each state has their own version of an NIH. Instead of one NIH we could have fifty SIHs—State Institutes of Health. Each state could compete for researchers by offering attractive grants.
