Motion Strong Action

Motion Strong action is a great way to get a #TalentedPlayer looks at the basket - while also creating scoring opportunities for everyone else.

Here's a 10 Tweet Crash Course ⏬
1. Establish 4 Out Spacing & Personnel

From a personnel perspective I want to get the "Talented Player" I referenced in the intro as my #2 if I can help it.

▪️ He Uses the Stagger
▪️ Needs to Make Appropriate Reads Image
2. Straight Cuts & Drives

We initiate MSA with the Slot-Slot-Wing swing.

If the defender trails the Cutter (2) straight cuts. We're looking for:

▪️ Catch & Shoot
▪️ Catch & Rip
3. Straight Cut - Hit the Roll Man

MSA is initiated with the swing and the cutter straight cuts.

There is no shot or drive available for the ball.

He has 3 Options:
1. Hit the Roller 📽️🔥
2. DHO to the Backside
3. Hit the Flare
4. Straight Cut - Backside DHO

MSA is initiated with the swing and the cutter straight cuts.

There is no shot or drive available for the ball.

He has 3 Options:
1. Hit the Roller
2. DHO to the Backside 📽️🔥
3. Hit the Flare
5. The Flare Screen

MSA is initiated with the swing and the cutter straight cuts.

There is no shot or drive available for the ball.

He has 3 Options:
1. Hit the Roller
2. DHO to the Backside
3. Hit the Flare 📽️🔥
6. Backdoor Cut

MSA is initiated with the Slot-Slot-Wing Swing.

The Cutter is met with physical pressure or denial - so he hits the backdoor cut. BD when we see:

▪️ Physical Play
▪️ Hard Switches
7. Backdoor Cut - Second Cut

If a backdoor cut is made and they don't get the ball we are expecting the screener to "Second Cut".

This is essentially a Pop back to the basketball.
8. Wing Drives

As usual, MSA is initiated with the Slot-Slot-Wing swing.

The Stagger Cut is made, but we don't like what we see. We then encourage the basketball to "Drive the Elbow"

▪️ Check the Cut
▪️ Check the Second Cut
▪️ Rip it & Drive
9. Post - Entry

I do like the idea of keeping the Post Player a factor in Motion Strong action.

When the ball is swung the wing player has the option of ignoring the screening action and simply entering the ball to the post.

▪️ Stagger Occupies the Help
▪️ Post Your Guard 💡

Offensive Rebounding

Attacking the offensive glass is one of the best ways to improve the efficiency of your offense.

To do this we want to have a clear philosophy and defined teaching points.

Here's My Breakdown of it ⏬
I. Offensive Rebounding Philosophy

Can be best summarized by saying that on every attempted shot we want to be the aggressor.

▪️ 3 to the Glass
▪️ 1 in Balance
▪️ Shooter makes his Shot Image
A. Offensive Rebounding Study

I would encourage anyone looking to improve their offensive rebounding performance to conduct a self-study.

I came to two conclusions:
1. 3 Men on the Glass Increases OREB%
2. 3 Men on the Glass Decreases Trans Opps

Practice Plans | Finishing

I like the idea of finding at least 15 minutes to work on Finishing, Footwork, & Dribble Stops every practice.

Alongside Perimeter Shooting and Spacing it's our best bet to improve offensive efficiency.

Here are 3 Progression Ideas. ⏬
Practice Progressions | Jump Stops

📋 Blend in 1/0, 1/1 & 4/4 Concepts.

Practice Progressions | Stride Stops

📋 Blend in 1/0, 1/1, 2/2, & 5/5 Concepts.
