I wanted to weigh in on The Honey Co. change in formulation. First let me state that I am a cosmetic chemist. I have been a chemist for over 10 years and I am a licensed esthetician. Here are my thoughts.
1. The * that says certified organic means that, that particular piece of raw material is organic, not the entire product. She never made any claims that her product was completely organic.
2. In her original formula she use coco glucoside. Currently coco glucoside is an incredibly hard piece of raw material to get your hands on, due to shortages and she more than likely had to pivot. That’s probably why she changed the surfactants she used.
3. The original formula, based on the preservative system, didn’t offer long shelf life. Phenoxyethanol, Sodium benzoate, Caprylyl glycol, and ethylhexylglycerin are all safe and naturally derived preservatives. These preservatives are found in most “natural” based products.
4. The Sorbitan Oleate Decyl Glucoside is a plant based emulsifier. 5. Tocopherol is the INCI name for vitamin e. 6. Propylene and Penytlene glycol are naturally derived Humectants. 7. The last four ingredients add scent to the product without adding fragrance.
8. Lactic acid is a safe pH balancing acid that offers your product more stability as well.
9a. Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a natural surfactant derived from coconut oil. It is a widely used surfactant because it has a great pH range.
9b. The pH ranges allows for a better preservative system to be created.
So overall, she created a safer and more sensitive product for the skin. Her product remains 90%, if not more, naturally/plant based derived. Before you guys drop this brand consider doing some research. (No shade)
And another thing. Y’all wild for jumping in sis comments calling her a sell out and threatening her. She had to disable her comments because of that. There will never be a time where hate speech is ok.
