Since @paoloredtoblue and Ryan Grim are choosing to share fake texts supposedly from the Lamb campaign, in a bid to help desperate Fetterman, I thought perhaps a little texting primer would be of interest.

Paolo claims to be an organizer, but it's now clear that that's a lie.
I've run texting programs for multiple campaigns, for years. I've written the scripts, I've negotiated and signed the contracts with providers - and that means I've READ the contracts too.
First off, campaigns don't contract with multiple platforms. Only one (at a time - if one sucks you might ditch it and hire a new one, but that's rare too).

Why? Several reasons.
1) They don't talk to each other. If you have a bunch of vols using totally different platforms, it's hard to sync your data - to tell which numbers have been texted in real time, so you can do more batches for texters.

2) It's often contractual - you've negotiated a rate.
But they don't.

And, yes, campaigns will have multiple scripts, often in multiple languages. They'll have ID scripts, persuasion scripts (less common for text), and various GOTV scripts (depending on day / VBM / EV / etc).

But they always have the same style. Yours didn't.
Now here's where Paolo really exposes himself as a fraud and a grifter.

NO CAMPAIGN WILL EVER HAVE VOLS TEXT FROM THEIR OWN PHONES. Never. NEVER EVER EVER.

Why? Let's see.

1) Vol ID info is private. This is for the safety of the voter AND the vol.
2) It's inefficient. Imagine manually sending 1000 texts with your thumbs?!? No vol would do it.

3) Data is king in campaigns, and if there are 300 vols with 300 phones texting whatever all willy nilly, the campaign can't see ANY of that data.
4) If someone opts out, YOUR PHONE IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE CAMPAIGN DATABASE. One more text sent, and congrats, you've committed a violation.

5) Typos alone!! My god, man.

6) Supervision. Campaigns check logs regularly. No platform? No log.
7 (I swear we're almost done with these) - Voters return texts at all hours. Other vols take over your mailbox when your shift ends. They can't monitor replies if you use your personal phone.

8) There are laws around when you're allowed to text. Platforms shut down accordingly.
The only time you may EVER be asked to manually send a text from a phone would be to confirm vol shifts or something like that - and unless you're in the campaign hierarchy, you usually would use a campaign phone for that.

Either way, it wouldn't be sent to a voter.
IN CONCLUSION, Paolo is a liar, and he is carrying water for Ryan Grim. You have to ask why that is, for someone who supposedly is so focused on flipping red rural seats.

Please, please don't fall for it.
POST SCRIPT: If this helps explain some of the behind-the-scenes of text banking, that's AWESOME and it's a great way for folks to be involved, even if you aren't a big texter in your regular life!

If you've never text banked before, some more info:
* It's easy! You use your laptop/desktop computer, not phone, so you can type normally.
* The campaign loads a script in for you with a starting intro message - "Hi NAME, my name is NAME and I'm a volunteer with CAMPAIGN...today is Election Day, have you made a plan to vote?"
* The script has a whole bunch of pre-set answers to common questions/prompts - so if the voter says "I don't know where to go" there's a little button with "Here's your polling place..." or whatever. (I'm making these examples up lol)
* There's a whole real-time support team helping you! If you get a question and don't know how to answer, they'll guide you.

* When your shift is over, any responses that come in later will be monitored by someone after you - you're not being bugged all day.
SO - as we all work for #53Pickup, a Dem House, and Dem candidates in state and local races, SIGN UP TO TEXT BANK!

Because I know how much a Democratic Senate means to my rights, to my friends’ rights, and to strangers’ rights, I deleted tweets criticizing our now-PA nominee.

I still stand by every word, but will not purposely do harm to a Senate majority.
I’m sure the people wanting meltdowns and “liberal tears” took screencaps…if they want to hurt their candidate by resharing those, I can’t do anything about that.

But I hope they’re suiting up - because they need to do for their guy what we were doing for ours.
As I’ve said many times, I hope ALL Democratic nominees win, at every level and in every state.

But I personally can’t afford to donate to all of them, and don’t have time to volunteer for all of them, so I have to make choices.
