1/ #CPACHungary is back in full authoritarian force today. Yesterday, we let you know about some of the American media personalities that chose to align themselves with Intolerant Viktor Orban. Today, let’s talk about American Members of Congress.
2/ @MarioDB represents Florida’s 25th Congressional District, so what is he doing over 5,000 miles away in Hungary? He accuses others of appeasing dictators in Cuba and Venezuela, but seems to have no issue when it comes to spending time with Viktor Orban.
3/ @RepAndyHarrisMD is another Member of Congress who seems to have lost his way. Harris’ family emigrated from Eastern Europe after WWII, but it doesn’t seem like he’s interested in bringing American-style democracy to Hungary if he’s comfortable associating with Orban.
@RepAndyHarrisMD 4/ @michaelgwaltz will also be speak at #CPACHungary. As a veteran, Mike should know what it means to fight for our freedoms. Instead, he’s rubbing shoulders with a man who takes pleasure in silencing the free press and prefers to rule by decree.
@RepAndyHarrisMD@michaelgwaltz 5/ Clearly, we need to help these American Members of Congress find their way back home from Budapest. Help us help them by calling their offices at the numbers below: Ask what they’re doing hanging out with dictators when they should be working for the American people.
1/ Let’s talk about CPAC. CPAC is an annual political conference by and for conservative activists. It was started in 1974, with Ronald Reagan giving the inaugural keynote speech.
2/ From 1974 to 2017 CPAC was a uniquely American event, focused on American conservative politics. As traditional conservatism gave way to the ultra right-wing Trumpist “conservatism” we see today, CPAC began to spread to other nations like Japan, Brazil, and South Korea.
3/ This year CPAC is taking a concerning turn: to Hungary. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a thoroughly corrupt, anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant leader with close ties to Vladimir Putin, will be the keynote speaker.
Elise Stefanik has doubled down on her use of dangerous Replacement Theory rhetoric. We want to know what her corporate donors, and their customers and employees, think about that. 🧵1/6
.@PwCUS gave Elise thousands of dollars in 2021. They claim to “build a culture of belonging” in their organization. Is that goal served by supporting people who espouse racist conspiracy theories, @Timothy_F_Ryan? 2/6
.@UPS gave Stefanik $5,000 in 2021. CEO @CarolBTome once said: “No one is safe until we are all safe, and we know there is no place in any community anywhere in the world for racism, bigotry or hate.” Does that promise extend to their donations to politicians like Elise? 3/6
1/ Today Vladimir Putin led Russia in celebrating Victory Day – a Russian national holiday meant to commemorate their victory over Nazi Germany in 1945. What used to be a remembrance of shared success and the power of global teamwork has now been turned on its head.
2/ Putin is using Victory Day to celebrate his own authoritarian aggression. His attack on Ukraine, with the aim of rooting out its democratically-elected leader, is a clear affront to democracy and freedom around the world.
3/ Instead of allowing this day to be contorted, we’re standing with our Ukrainian friends in asking that people around the world take this opportunity to show their support for the Ukrainian resistance.
.@Toyota promised to stop financial contributions to members of the GOP who worked to overturn the results of the 2020 election. They broke that promise, and Americans will pay the price.
@Toyota It’s a great start, but it’s not enough for individuals to stop doing business with corporations that support sedition like Toyota. We need state governments to use their purchasing power to keep the pressure on too.
@Toyota We’re calling on @GovMurphy to ensure NJ divests from Toyota. NJ’s Division of Investment currently lists 16,100 shares in Toyota Motor Corp. That means New Jerseyans $$$ are lining the pockets of seditionists like @repandybiggs and @RepRonnyJackson through companies like Toyota.
