(1/n) This week on #KnowYourSources we talk about data related to 'Domestic Air Transport', published by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The data is released both Monthly, and Annually, in three different reports.
(2/n) The DGCA releases three types of reports for 'Domestic Air Traffic'. First is 'Airline Traffic' data which is available from the year 2014, and published monthly.

(3/n) Monthly domestic air traffic report is more like a summary of domestic operations for a specific month which includes summary data/information of Domestic passengers, Passenger Load Factor, cancellation rate, complaints received by scheduled domestic airlines, reasons, etc.
(4/n) The second type of data is 'Monthly Statistics', released monthly and available from 2009. These contain Airline wise monthly data related to number of Aircrafts flown, number of hours and distance, Cargo carried, Tonne kilometre, etc.
(5/n) Another very important part of the monthly statistics is the 'Domestic City Pair Traffic data' that provides data on number of passengers between two cities (from & to). This is very important to track the changing nature of air transport, busy routes, etc.
(6/n) Third report in domestic air traffic is 'Yearly Statistics', published annually, available from 1997-98. It has data related to monthly, yearly traffic & operating statistics of each airline. Also has data on charter flights & tourists, etc.

(n/n) All three reports put together provide all the data required to track & analyse the domestic air traffic in the country on a monthly & yearly basis. One of our recent stories based on the data from 'Domestic City Pair Traffic' is in the link below factly.in/data-many-rout…

(2/n) The MEA publishes data on gifts presented to VIPs/members of the official delegation during their official foreign visits, which are received in the Toshakhana. These are governed by Foreign Contribution (Acceptance or Retention of Gifts or Presentations) Rules, 2012
This is a story published today in the @timesofindia The headline might mislead you to think of this as an overwhelming opinion of parents from Hyderabad.
(2/n) But the reality is that the headline is based on an online survey conducted by a private association in which 1118 people participated and 918 felt that the schools should be opened only after a cure or vaccine is found.
Why is this story problematic at many levels?
(3/n) The minimum you should do in such a story is mention the sample size of the survey, without which the story is incomplete, misleading and attempts to manufacture opinion. manufacture opinion.
