The public statements are nice @UBuffalo but you are just as complicit in upholding anti-Blackness and white supremacy. Just last month UB allowed conservative speaker, Allen West to give a speech on campus entitled, "America is Not Racist".
When students (largely Black) protested the speaker, people made anonymous threats online to, "use the protestors as target practice". @UBuffalo never sent out a statement directly to students addressing this and it's been crickets since.
I said this last month and I'll say it again. @UBuffalo cares more about not getting sued for violating the First Ammendment than they care about Black lives.
There's been a lot of discussion about the neighborhood in which the anti-Black white supremacist terriorist attack occured. Here's a short 🧵on the area from a person who not only lives in the area, but who is researching it as well. 👇🏿
Buffalo has a white-Black Dissimilarity index of 74. This means that 74% of white ppl would need to move to another neighborhood to make white ppl + Black ppl more evenly distributed across neighborhoods. Our region has one of the highest Dissimilarity Indicies in the county.
Much of the East Side was demolished as a result of Urban Renewal Programs beginning in the mid-1940s. Thousands of Black ppl were displaced as a result of these programs. One these projects was the Kensington Expressway, which allowed and encouraged white flight to the suburbs.
Many people have asked how they can help in the aftermath of the white supremacist anti-Black terrorist attack today in Buffalo. Please check out this 🧵for organizations and people to donate to. Will add more as I learn about more.👇🏿
Buffalo Community Fridge will be providing food to residents affected by the mass-shooting. As I mentioned, the terrorist attack took place in a food dessert. Many people will not be able to access food while the market is closed. Please donate!
