Everyone loves #PanchayatOnPrime. It is earthy, humor that we identify with, has people who feel our own.More importantly it has inherent decency which I believe still exists in our lives. Regardless of what Anurag Kashyap brand of cinema tells you and what Social Media tells you
Everyone has been raving about #PanchayatSeason2 so there is really nothing more to say. However what most people have missed in their reviews is portrayal of women in the show. Women of Panchayat are feisty, strong, have a mind of their own and are equals.
Even in the remote village you see the progress that India is witnessing. Rinki’s marriage may be a family affair like most Indian marriages are but her approval is important. She has a say in what she wants. She also dresses up differently from her mother and drives a scooter
Manju Devi is an equal. She is smarter than Pradhan Ji. Clearly has better political instinct than him. But she won’t let him know that:)How many women identify with that. Manju devi played brilliantly by @Neenagupta001 is not a pushover. She gets what she wants and knows no fear.
Cell phone penetration is a modern miracle. People who are desperate to get bathrooms in their homes have cell phones with unlimited data I suppose :) This miracle has been so beautifully shown in #PanchayatOnPrime
Also notice how people address each other even when they are angry. In real world outside of South Bombay and South Delhi, people don’t use nasty expletives. In real world, people generally talk to each other with basic respect. I see that everywhere on India.

Well done Siddhartha. Excellent question.
I always say that India is divided into two kinds of people. Those who believe India is an unbroken civilization of 5000 years, and those who think India was ‘born’ in 1947. Rahul Gandhi belongs to the latter group which is not a surprise. Look at the company he keeps.
Why is Sonia Congress different and divisive than say previous versions of Congress? It is not that Congress hasn’t lost elections before. Indira lost elections, Rajiv lost elections. But this tag of ‘anti-national’ stuck only to Sonia Congress? It is easy to guess why.

There is a section of Indians who suck upto Georgetown professor because she takes on Pakistan. As if she is doing a huge favor to you. As if you cannot take on a terrorist state on your own. As if you need her legitimacy. As if her so called scholarship is anything original.
They take her abuses, they settle for her bad behavior, they swoon over her hindi accent, they drown in self loathing when she attacks India. In short, they are totally hypnotized by an abusive woman who cannot speak to you, unwashed masses, with respect.
I have long been blocked by her because I cannot suffer abusive people who have no control over their behavior or language. And I will not tolerate expletives even if it is a white woman uttering them in my language. Unlike most of her ‘admirers’ I do not find it ‘cute’.

When a civilization declines, the bankruptcy is visible everywhere. The quality of its people deteriorates. Shallow men and women become heroes. There is anger everywhere and people forget their responsibilities. Declining civilizations can’t see future anymore.
What happened at Oscar’s last night is a reflection of America’s declining civilization. Responsible people know when to intervene, in order to bring about a change. They know they have agency to do that. They don’t teach young boys and girls that violence is acceptable
What could Will Smith have done? He knew the jokes are written by the writers and presenter doesn’t make them up on the spot. Everyone knows that. It is possible that writers did not know about Jada’s medical condition or they were insensitive.

I am reading a lot of ‘propaganda’ about ‘propaganda films’.I thought I should address it here. Kashmir Files is my story and story of my people. It is impossible for me to be objective about it. But years of training as an analyst has also taught me to be fair in my analysis 1/6
Those who call TKF propaganda film miss an important lesson that they should have learnt after the film was released. Forget the money, look at the catharsis people are having from Jammu to Kanyakumari and it is all spontaneous 2/6
No amount of propaganda can buy that reaction.Have you ever entertained the view that this must be explosion of emotions of people who feel their stories weren’t told, their stories were suppressed. Why would a barber in Bhavnagar give a free haircut to those who watch the film3/6

Thanks to #TheKashmirFiles we have attention of our fellow citizens now. This is an emotional moment because I never thought I would see this day. While we have your attention, I would like to draw your attention to many unsung activists who ensured our story is not forgotten 1/10
Before SM,it was a real challenge to chronicle our story and make it easily available for those who wanted to know. Two activists who toiled day and night to ensure our history is not forgotten are @Sharnarthee and @sunilfotedar I personally have benefited from their research 2/10
These were early days of Internet. People had not yet understood the power of World Wide Web. @Sharnarthee and @sunilfotedar created websites called ikashmir.net and kashmirherald.com. Today anybody starting basic research goes to these websites first 3/10
