Can you identify which ecologically rich college campus this photo belongs to for today's #TriviaThursday?

Yes, it's the #MadrasChristianCollege! The campus was originally formed as part of the Selaiyur Reserve Forest and the vegetation is of true scrub jungle that comes under Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest with tremendous species diversity of flora and fauna.

The 365-acre campus is also home to a lot of threatened plant species. There are about 9 different species of mammals, 25 species of birds, 13 species of butterflies, 11 species of reptiles, 1 species of mites, 4 species of beetles and 3 species of spiders are found on the campus

The habitat diversity includes wildlife such as antelope, black-naped hare, common mongoose, jackal, jungle cat, monitor lizard and a variety of snakes besides 140 species of birds. Porcupines, striped hyena, small Indian civet, toddy cat, binturong, leopard cats -

- and pangolins are found occasionally. The vegetation type of the campus is similar to that of the IIT campus. To safeguard the greenery of this scrub jungle, a small group of students, calling themselves ‘Green Freaks’ worked for the cause of the jungle.

Later they formed a society with a group of 20 members, the ‘Scrub Society’, mainly to protect the forest cover of the campus. The society brought in cooperation and working together atmosphere among the staff, students, campus residents and the alumni, to preserve the greenery.
