'I am feeling anger and profound disgust when I hear some Westerners suggest that Ukraine should just give up part of its territory to Russia': a Ukrainian soldier, who holds a PhD in history and used to work in a museum before the war, shared his thoughts facebook.com/10000398421543…
Please read it with the translation. It's a really powerful and striking personal account. 'I have never wanted to be a military man. But now I am one because there's war in my country. As are thousands of other Ukrainian professionals'
'They are killed by artillery and Tochka-U, cluster and phosphorus munitions. Some of them have already died. But they continue to fight. Because Ukraine is behind them. Because if they lay down their arms, their parents will be killed, wives and daughters raped, homes destroyed'
'And when politicians from France, Italy, Germany offer us to lay down our arms, agree to lose territories, provide Russia with some security guarantees (absurd!!! Russia does not need any security guarantees, its neighbors need guarantees), I feel anger and deep disgust'
'I loathe these insignificant people who, because of their prejudice or Putin's dirty money, are ready to doom my country to takeover, to a slow and painful death. Disgust and anger at those who have great opportunities to help overcome the crisis, but instead...
...seek, consciously or unconsciously, to deepen it. Because even the complete capitulation of Ukraine will not solve the problem of global security. On the contrary, it will push Russia into new conquests.'
'We do not need offers to surrender. If you are not ready to fight with us against a rabid enemy, then help us with weapons, money, sanctions. We need a lot to defeat Russia and thus drastically reduce the global crisis. But we have the main thing - motivation'
'We have historians ready to sleep five people in two beds and knead the mud for weeks, accountants ready to eat porridge with stew for months, students who spend their best years risking death. And they will not go anywhere - unless they are all killed.
With your consent.'

Ukrainian flags and supportive messages visible in Vienna. Still, some questions to me from the public broadcaster reveal that not everyone understands Ukraine's fight and the necessity to defeat Russia together: 'what concessions is Ukraine prepared to make to stop the war?'
I answered that it's not the right question to ask now. The West should be rather thinking about how to help Ukraine win this war. If not stopped in Ukraine and rewarded for his aggression, if concessions are imposed on Ukraine, Putin will move further and wage new wars
Ukraine is not just fighting for territories, it's fighting for people. Those under Russian occupation suffer from terrible human rights abuse: kidnappings, torture, rape, extrajudicial killings. Ukraine needs to liberate occupied territories to protect them. The West must help

As I am returning from my short trip to Kyiv, here's a thread about my impressions from visiting the Ukrainian capital after three months away. It feels almost normal - many people on the streets, including kids - but it's not, not yet
Many businesses have reopened, but not all of them. Public transport resumed work partially: metro trains run with intervals of 20-30 min and stop operating at 8 PM. Trains are quite crowded. Access to metro is free - but that will change on May 16
There are obviously a lot of armed people in military uniforms in the city. Documents are checked at the entrance to the main train station and at the platforms exits, but it looks rather as a formality

On a bus in Western Ukraine today, I overheard a boy, maybe 17 yo, talk about his apartment in Kharkiv's Saltivka district, completely destroyed by Russians. 'I'll never forgive them. My parents will go to Europe, I'll return to Kharkiv, join territorial defence and take revenge'
'These orcs are completely brainwashed. Their TV has been teaching them to hate Ukrainians for years', he said, speaking with a conductor in Russian language. 'Ukraine is my beloved country'. This war has alienated so many Ukrainians who were previously neutral or loyal to Russia
This is especially true for the new generation. Ukrainian children, who were hiding from the bombs in basements, who lost their loved ones, their homes, will be growing with a clear understanding that Russia is an enemy and a strong feeling of their Ukrainian identity.

I just spoke with a man who was abducted by Russians in Kherson reg and spent weeks in captivity. He was beaten, tasered, ribs broken. His main takeaway about Russians? 'They are cowards. Their main fear is to be sent to frontline: they are scared to death of the Ukrainian army'
Kherson region has been under Russian occupation for more than two months, yet, Russians fail to install an effective control over the region. They kidnap, torture, kill civilians, shoot at protesters. My source believes 90% of Kherson reg residents oppose Russian occupation
Russians have been trying to disconnect the region from internet and mobile communications in the last days. They closed almost all of the evacuation routes from Kherson region. They do not allow food and medicine supplies from Ukraine in,bringing low-quality stuff from Crimea

Guests invited to Italian talk shows in recent weeks: chief Russian propagandist Soloviov, propagandists from 🇷🇺 defense ministry Zvezda TV, 🇷🇺 foreign ministry spokeswoman, Italian combatants for 🇷🇺 proxies in Donbas.
Next: 🇷🇺 foreign minister, 'for the 1st time on European TV'
Interviews with the above-mentioned people were usually very complacent. No hard questions, no rebuke by the presenter. When Ukrainian guests are invited, they are given less space and are often interrupted. Ukrainian friends who participated in these TV shows before now refuse
Here's a recent post by a Ukrainian journalist who speaks about 'Russian propaganda on Italian TV' and explains why she doesn't want to participate in these talk shows m.facebook.com/story.php?stor…
