One of my dear friends was a child in the Trnopolje concentration camp. Another one, lost her child when Serb forces took him never to return. His remains were found years after. 102 children were killed in Prijedor and today they cannot even commemorate their deaths.
#WhiteArmbandDay is not just for us to remember, it's there for us to demand better. Why are politicians not fighting against the Dodik regime and Prijedor police when it comes to the commemorations? Why are they not demanding people be allowed to protest and commemorate today?
What is the use in these supposed "pro-BiH" or "pro-Bosniak" parties when they're staying silent as survivors in the Prijedor region are continually marginalised? It's their tax paying money that affords the salaries of those who are forbidding the commemorations.
Honestly, it is shameful what we have allowed to happen. Even one politicians from Sarajevo showing up in Prijedor to demand the commemoration proceed would've been enough.

I made a decision to leave the non-profit industrial complex and I am so happy about it. I took a job with a Norwegian company, doing something I genuinely enjoy, and the way they value work-life balance is astounding to me. It's amazing. It's a world of difference.
& I worried if I was doing the right thing b/c I had 4 offers from 4 non-profits at the time who were focused on causes I genuinely cared about. But now I get to do a job I love and I'm not being censored or held to impossible standards while I do it. I'm happy with it.
I can do good and have done good while working in the private sector before. I think...I can even do more good tbh because I'm not being held up by lines of red tape. Organising, community work, & activism can be done without working in a non-profit.
My daughter got a platinum jubilee book about the Queen, she also got a nice mug w/ the Queen's face on it. The book was sent to all kids in the UK and it cost 12 million pounds to do that. Some of her classmates only get to eat during the free school lunch they get.
Some of her classmates share their bedroom with 3 other kids, their 2 bed apartment with parents, grandparents, siblings too and sometimes a cousin or two. Because they cannot afford to not share a home with that many people.
Some of her classmates couldn't go on an upcoming school trip so we covered their fees. Some of her classmates come to school in worn out uniforms because their parents cannot afford to buy them new ones. Some of her classmates parents work multiple jobs to survive.
This interview with Ešef Dženanović is heartbreaking. His entire family was killed in Prijedor while he was imprisoned in the concentration camps of Keraterm, Omarska & Trnopolje. The greatest sorrow for him is that his neighbours keep quiet about where his loved ones are buried.
The reality for many in Bosnia, particularly in places such as Prijedor is that the perpetrators of the genocide are now your next door neighbours, the local teacher, the policeman, the grocer, the retired doctor, the local butcher. People you know. People you have to live with.
These people are roaming freely and many, even those who did not partake in the genocide, know where the graves are, they know where the remains and bodies are, they even know who committed the massacres...but they keep quiet. Silence is complicity.
We have a month to come up with almost 11K in order to cover our attorney fees, get our paperwork in order, and pay the Visa fees, the NHS surcharge, the biometric fee, and the priority submission. We're halfway to our goal and ask you to donate or share if you're able.
It's been a horrendous year for us...Adam's father had a horrific accident which required surgery, I lost my grandfather and two of my favourite uncles to covid related deaths, my mother had two heart attacks. I lost my job due to the covid financial issues. It's been hell, guys.
International courts as well as forensic science has proved that over 30,000 people (mainly Bosniaks) passed through the concentration camps set up around Prijedor and that thousands were massacred. Meanwhile, these people are protesting that truth and negating the crimes.
During the takeover of Prijedor, non-Serbs (mainly Bosniaks and Croats) were forced to mark their homes with white flags and themselves with white armbands. Then they were selected and sent off to Trnopolje, to Omarska, to Keraterm where they endured horrific torture & abuse.
I'm in therapy now and it's with the NHS...which is an amazing feat on its own btw.
My therapist told me how I'm too empathetic and that's why I attracted narcissistic friends/people. She also said that contrary to popular belief narcissists actually target "strong women".
& the reason they target "strong women/people" is because the goal is to break them. So...that's something that I learned.
She also told me to stop being so tough and I said "actually I'm not that tough, I have no upper body strength at all" which she did not find funny at all.
