Things to NOT do this pride (and every day following) 🧵
The "Im illegal in 70 countries" joke. It's not funny bethany, I cannot go outside with a rainbow pin without getting beaten up.
Don't use slurs you can't reclaim?? Leave the f-slur to queer men and transfemminine people, leave the d-slur to lesbians and leave the t-slur to trans people. Just bc you're queer doesn't mean you can say it.
Don't call people you don't know a twink/bear/otter etc. You don't just go up to a middle aged woman and call her a milf to her face. Even if she is a milf. It's distateful.
If you see a pride flag you don't know, ask politely what it represents and listen. Don't pull the "a new one??? But there is so many pride flags i cannot keep up with it" bullshit. You don't need to have all of them memorised. Just be respectful.
Do not bombard any content creators (or anyone really) with questions about their identity and sexuality. If they wanted to tell their audience, they would. It's not your buisness.
If someone comes out to you, match their energy! If they seem stressed, reassure them it's okay. If they are excited, be excited as well. AND DO NOT OUT THEM TO OTHER PEOPLE, NOT EVEN QUEER PEOPLE WITHOUT PERMIT.
Don't introduce your trans friends as "the trans guy/girl". Just use their name and pronouns, you don't need to tell third party people that they are trans.
Don't flatten down any content creators to their sexuality/gender identity. They are humans not walking pride flags!!!
