swedes don’t feed the kids or their dates apparently what is happening in that country #Swedengate
why are they being stingy with the meatballs
the UN needs to impose sanctions expeditiously
i’m fascinated with all this because it’s so alien to the cultures I grew up around. Latin American, African, Asian, Middle Eastern, South Asian take hospitality to the next level. My parents would’ve burned the house down before letting my friends stay in my room while we ate
food is love in these cultures which is why we share

Folklore and legends throughout the Islamic world tell tales of creatures and monsters haunting mountains, deserts, and the wilderness. These fantastic beasts embody the fears and imagination of humanity regarding nature.

A thread-
While many jinn can inhabit human locales, they were most famously associated with deserts and mountains and likely originated as a type of tutelary nature spirit.
Of these jinn of the wilderness, the sila’t are famed for their powers of seduction and shapeshifting.

They happen upon those wandering out in the wild, take beguiling forms, and come and share the campfire with them.

Women played an important role in Islamic history yet like much of history the lives of women are often limited to their relationship to men, either as mothers or as wives.

But some women defied these social restrictions. Their lives can tell us a lot

A thread
Hammanah bint Jahsh was a contemporary of Prophet Muhammad.

A narration mentions her stoicism upon hearing the news of her uncle, brother, and father’s death and the breaking of that stoicism upon hearing of the death of her husband.
She had two children, but it wasn’t just her role as a mother or widow that defined her, it would be her role on the battlefield for which she was famed.

She was one of the women who accompanied the Muslims to battle during the early conflicts against the Meccans.

Medieval astrologers from the Islamic world often noted its motion as significant for world events.

The 9th c astrologer Abu Ma’shar says this means:

-rulers granting favors to their allies and family
-the elevation of younger rulers and princes
-corruption of the law
Later in the month Jupiter and Mars will conjunct in one of the important configurations for medieval astrologers.

-dynastic changes
-upheavals in government
-harm and death of rulers
-overthrow of powerful

As beings of light, angels in Islam are described in fantastic and wondrous ways. Some are named, some are known only by their function. Some are mentioned in the Qur’an and some in outside sources. One angel in particular captured the imagination of medieval Muslims.

A thread- Image
Early and medieval writers, drawing from Qur'anic references, discussed ar-Ruh; at times an angel and at times a description of spiritual essence.
The Qur’an repeatedly makes reference to the Ruh, usually as a descriptor like Ruh al Qudus, a holy spirit. (Q 2:87)

the way people have co-opted emotional labor or self-care away from systemic critiques for their own personal tools to turn any human interaction into some type of transactional customer service is a sight to behold
hyper individualism is killing some of y’all’s family relationships, friendships, and intimate connections
anyway super grateful for my cultural background and my parents right about now
