There’s a reason the far-right wanted @BetaCuck4Lyfe in a cage.

Now free of the shackles of eMonitoring (‘prison by an another name’), the PDX activist who took on an armed Nazi sent me

A LIST OF EVERY SINGLE CITY OF UVALDE EMPLOYEE — INCLUDING THE COPS

The Catch:

The latest info on the City of Uvalde website is 2 years old

When you click on an employee on the list, it doesn’t tell you their position — only their salary

When you click on the ‘full profile’ button, it takes you to a 3rd party data broker

The entire Uvalde police department — now refusing to cooperate with state police — must be held accountable (@TENDEMANDS 4)

But even that won’t solve our problems.

Cops are not the answer to mass shootings or hate crimes — in spite of the copaganda
Not only did Uvalde police knowingly allow the massacre of 19 children, they openly lied about it, obstructed the state investigation, and are threatening journalists uncovering the truth (doing their jobs).

The Buffalo PD? They’re doing the same thing.

Have I mentioned it’s the whole prison industrial complex — and not just the cops? The prosecutors, the judges, the jails and prisons — they’re not just complicit.

Meet the District Attorney of Uvalde County

As we spread info on the corruption of the Uvalde police and DA, and struggle to compute how one nation could be filled with so much hate and violence:

Far-right extremists are using their platforms to *urge* their young followers to copycat the massacre

Do they *really* think increasing school “security” is the solution?

Or is it just all they’re willing to do?

Cause — icymi — this is what school “safety” officers do: Image
In addition to hiring a law firm to prevent an investigation into town police misconduct

In addition to journalists being threatened for doing their jobs

There’s this:

Of course, it’s not enough for #UvaldePolice to threaten journalists and obstruct justice

The grieving parents are being targeted for merely asking for answers — and now feel as unsafe as their kids in school

@DelilahforTexas After the longest period of sustained protest in US history

Against police violence

Police funding *increased* in 2021.

And after Uvalde police watched children get massacred, and then lied about it

The city council voted to *increase* their budget too

Ever hear of the School of the Americas (SOA)? It’s at the US military base in Fort Benning, GA.

This American school is where we train South American soldiers to slaughter their own people…

And where we trained Derek Chauvin, who murdered George Floyd

Minneapolis cop and convicted killer Derek Chauvin likely being at the School of the Americans while I was there protesting American imperialism is a mere blip in America’s expansive history of inextricably tying the Military and Prison Industrial Complexes 🧵 Image
As the CIA was buying up loads of cocaine and planting crack in Black neighborhoods throughout the US, they — and every other govt institution — were also busy financing coups across Latin America and the world in the name of a War on Drugs

When it comes to police violence and the prison industrial complex, I share a lot of data, smart ideas from people smarter than me, and stories from/of those deserving amplification.

But here’s how I *know* what I say is true 🚨🧵
It was 2005. 2 years before the 1st iPhone.

I was 24, dating a Venezuelan. She was 23. We’d each ‘interacted’ with police before.

We were on our way to Maine, driving north in Massachusetts. I, a working class Jew in a Yankee hat, and she, a poor Latina. We didn’t know the road
The car wasn’t fancy, and it wasn’t beatup. I was driving. Sober.

And suddenly, without warning, the lanes shifted and traffic halted nearly to a complete stop. I quickly switched lanes to avoid rearending another vehicle.

And then came the lights and sirens.

Story: When I was 20 or 21 I applied successfully for a grant to work ‘pro bono’ at an alternative to incarceration center.

The counselors were glorified probation officers.

The Black and brown kids were expected to be there daily — for GED class, and a lot of surveillance.

Class was a joke; nobody paid attention, and the teacher didn’t care, so I taught English using Hip Hop.

The majority of the day, though, the boys watched The Godfather on repeat. Splayed on a floor.

Outside time was one hour. Basketball or nothing. And only I played with them.
Until, suddenly, the boss told me my *free* services were no longer needed — “because you got too close to them…”

When really they feared a mutiny of newly empowered subjects.

This was, after all, the same org that did *nothing* after one of the kids was killed blocks away. A small memorial placed at ...

Rachel Herzing says there’s a “symbiotic relationship between public and private interests that employ imprisonment, policing, surveillance, the courts, and their attendant cultural apparatuses as a means of maintaining social, economic, and political inequalities”

🧵
While we cheered Biden saying "the federal government should not use private facilities for any detention”

Within months of taking office there were thousands more people caged than under Trump

He was further privatizing ICE detention and trying to send more people to prison
While well intentioned, the campaign to end prison privatization is a distraction — and typical of reformism:

It doesn’t weaken the carceral state; it strengthens it by assuming caging is the solution to crime

Those leaving private cells would merely be relocated to public ones
