Moses Ingram was told not to study Star Wars extensively to get a flavor of what IS they kind of character she's representing. THEY told her that. They wanted authentic acting brought to the table as delivered & she did that. Quite well.
Why Disney Lucasfilm Star Wars tells their actors that? Cos of the schism. Intertwining them is...they want to steer clear. It's an art to do it. At SWAG77 we've been doing this since the Schism.
Once all the Star Wars material is figured out, it's not difficult to cherry-pick mix & match. Just know the story might not go that way in the end. Results vary. That's the stochastic nature of it. The script was decided ~4 years ago. So fans can't change it, now.
But to "wade & flow" thru the works of Legends & Current, it takes A LOT of reading & study. Half my tweets are about that. So is my Patreon. So are the blogs. I'm used to it cos I use to do something similar as a scientist. I try to teach others.
What #StarWars fans find is they build an intriguing story that is attention-grabbing than just fanfic porn without plot or fluff. One can write that, but the reason why Moses Ingram is being harassed by "criticism" w/blatant racism is cos of the Schism & some fans are assholes.
Disney Lucasfilm Star Wars could have had her read 1 book for prep. One comic at least. Maybe she did. IDK. I LOVED her performance, but if you wanted better protection, you'd not have her say she didn't read books at #SWCA. No, she doesn't have to, but you lobbed her out there.
And having all these famous actors go off about that is the result...

I myself totally get these productions are brand new stuff. I like it. But I also know these dimwit #StarWars fans that really failed to read themselves but think they did, & gatekeep the hello out of nascent fans that just are happy. Have your actors say they READ something.
