Just received this text from one of our hospitals. January is going to be a mess.

Get vaccinated/boosted, stay home if you can, wear a n95.
Covid census went from 45 to 61 patients overnight. Doesn’t bode well since NYE hasn’t happened yet….
I do not want to be back at the place where this hospital had 2 refrigerated trucks with bodies triple bagged because all the mortuaries were full.

Tonight on my drive home from work, I received devastating news that a lifelong friend who I was classmates with from preschool all the way to our senior year in high school, died yesterday unvaccinated. This was her last text to me. I am truly gutted.
I called her parents to pay my condolences. I cried, they cried. “We were thinking of you Krupali after she passed, since we wanted you to know, you’ve been friends since you were 3 years old….”
I have so many memories flooding my brain right now. So many fun memories. She had left behind 2 kids, 2 kids who will now grow up sans a vibrant mother. My heart is broken.

My best friend from high school is still unvaccinated and their kid just had a bone marrow transplant and was diagnosed with Covid.

I can’t today.
I am angry, horrified, sad, livid, and honestly - petrified for the kid, a kid who I met the day they were born.

We haven’t stayed in touch the past decade, but for the love of your kid, please get vaccinated.
I am going to call them tomorrow as their spouse called me tonight for help.
