If today’s #GoogleDoodle made you say, “who is Bose, boss?” - you’ve landed on the right thread 🤭
Obviously, we have quite a few #SNBose fans on this side of the table, so gather around, we’re all ready to tell this story.
Some background on Bose - he was an Indian physicist, mathematician, language-expert, musician and a total pro at a WHOLE lot of other things.
Basically, he was the kid in your class who was a topper and was cool 😮💨
How it started: Bose's interest in numbers was sparked in his childhood by his dad, who gave him a math problem to solve every time he left for work.
⏩ a few years: Bose had a Master’s in Applied Mathematics from the University of Calcutta. He topped his batch (ofc) 🙌
One day in 1917, in the middle of a lecture on Planck’s radiation formula, Bose started questioning why particles were counted the way they were. So he did what any great researcher would do. Documented his theory in a report and sent it to a journal.
Was that the end? Nuh-uh.
On the 4th of June 1924, Prof. S. N. Bose compiled his findings and decided to write a lovely letter (this is not a plug to our #GoogleDoodle at all 🤭) to the one and only Albert Einstein.
Guess how that went?

.
.
(it went really well)
Einstein was maha-impressed and he went on to apply Bose’s formula to a wide range of phenomena, and a statistic was arrived at that made it all come together: the Bose-Einstein statistic.
This work is considered one of the most important findings in quantum theory.
When we say Bose's work made a big bang, we really mean it. Heard of the Boson particle? 1000 points for guessing who that was named after.
In honour of Bose’s legacy, any particle that conforms with his statistics today is known as a Boson ⚛️
And that's a smol part of the story of #SNBose. He was awarded with the Padma Vibhushan. He also went on to serve as president of many institutions (bonus points if you know which ones), and lived on as a total boss.
#DYK that beads, cowries, and even coins of small denominations are used to embellish pieces of clothing in Lambani embroidery?

Although most Angami baskets are made for everyday use, a fine basket like this is made as a gift for special occasions, like weddings!
