ENCODE is a way to make deeply thought, more insightful notes
It's based on the natural conversation model, consistently linking one idea to another, the way our brain naturally works
Check how it works below...
👋🏼 ENCOUNTER (Hello...)
I found the link to Nick's Conference in my email after subscribing to his content.
📝 NOTE (... that's interesting...)
The conference was a good way to understand his approach. What better idea than to start with his initial keynote? He focused on how to make better, linked notes
To enrich your insights & thoughts instead of others'
🖇 CONNECT (... that reminds me...)
ENCODE, his 6-step framework, immediately brought to my mind:
• David Allen's GTD 5 steps: Capture - Clarify - Organize -Reflect -Engage, and
• Tiago Forte's CODE: Capture - Organize - Distill - Express.
🗃 ORGANIZE (... that's part of...)
The 3 frameworks are just 3 similar - and not mutually exclusive - approaches to productivity, knowledge management and creativity
⚙ DEVELOP (... oh, wow, that means...)
GTD focuses on tasks to be performed. These can also be of a creative nature, though. CODE focuses on expression — filtered by the individual perspective
ENCODE emphasizes increasing the signal vs noise ratio (own vs others' thoughts)
📢 EXPRESS (... I think, I feel...)
These 3 frameworks may feel somewhat overlapping. At least at first sight. But each of them adds some nuances to better get your insights and takeaways from the first moment you take any note.
And that's definitely a worth exploring topic.
The output you get may be the next thing you encounter, thus becoming this process an endless sensemaking loop ♻
