1. The Abandonment of #NupurSharma and Why it is a Watershed Moment for Hindus

When the government threw Nupur under the bus and validated that India is ruled by Shariat Law indeed, it changed something in the psyche of the Hindus.
2. Strategists and apologists for the Great Leader cannot understand why everyone is so riled up with the abandonment of Nupur, including some of the most devout bhaktas of the Party, who until yesterday were worshipping but now are up in arms against the Party.
3. What they cannot understand that the issue is of honor: honor of our women, honor of our dharma, culture and civilization. And personal security after public dishonoring will not do. I cannot help but find parallels with our epics like many other perceptive people do so too.
4. Draupadi was also not disowned by Pandavas in private. They loved her and would accept her after all humiliation. It was in public that they disowned her. Same happened with Nupur, no matter how much security the Party provides, they have abandoned our women to the wolves.
5. It is truly a watershed moment where more and more Hindus are realizing they need to fight on their own and that no government will come to help them. It is truly a wake up call and the parallels with the epics are not wrong.
6. At the heart of every great battle for dharma, at the cusp of every great reclamation of dharma is an adharmic act involving dishonoring women.
7. When Sita was abducted by Ravana, Ramayana happened.

When Draupadi was disrobed by Kauravas, Mahabharata happened.

A society which cannot protect its women is not a society at all. It is a group of shikhandis.
8. But Hindu society has proven again and again, it is a land of kshaatra. After so many dishonors, it will rise and strike the enemy on its own. With or without the Party.

1. Is Lack of Unity our Problem? Is intermarriage a solution?

Political Hindus offering inter-caste marriage as only nirvāna to all Hindu problems suffer from amnesia of history and religion. Their diagnosis of an ‘un-united Hindu society’ as the source of our defeat is wrong. Image
2. A common refrain of the RSS and other likeminded thinkers and activists is that Hindu society is not united as against the unity of Islamic and Christian societies. Nothing can be further than truth. One only needs to look at their homelands.
3. An overwhelming percentage of Muslims killed in the world are by Muslims themselves. Some of the bloodiest wars are being fought within the boundaries of Islam.

1. A value without reciprocity is vice and not virtue. Liberalism isn't the only answer. Criticism of all religions should not be fair game. But those religions which have iconoclasm, world domination, colonialism as their stated goals, they can't be covered in sacredness clause.
2. A dharmic state would respect all religions with a clause excluding those religions which have world domination and destruction of other religions as their stated goal. They can't be covered in blasphemy laws. So you see, I won't advocate liberalism in the next seven lives.
3. This clause of reciprocity is necessary and essential. Unilateral 'abhaya' from State from any criticism can't be guaranteed. Similarly Christianity has to promise that Shiva and Krishna are equal paths to God, for it get recognized as a religion and to have rights for same.

1. Arrattupuzha Sree Sastha Temple, Thrissur

In the Hindū kṣetra of Thrissur, near the great centre of Irinjalkuda, there is a quiet unassuming temple - Arrattupuzha Sree Sastha Temple. It stands just a turn from the main road & a stone throw’s away from the Karuvannur River. Image
2. Most temples in Kerala have village names attached to their title as there are so many, naming them only on the presiding deity won’t be able to differentiate. So you see, Kerala is still the land of the Hindū temples. Image
3. This temple is dedicated to Sage Vaśiṣṭha, the gurū of Śrī Rāma. Once again contrary to general beliefs, Kerala is strewn all over with Rāma temples and temples related to the great epic. Bhāratavarṣa is made in the image of its gods and Kerala is no exception. Image

1. Ecology & Its Importance in Dharma

There is tendency in ‘right wing Hindus’ to discard ecology as leftist hoax. It’s an imitation of ‘right’ in the West, which is a handmaiden of the Church. It’s not surprising that a Biblical framework considers climate change as conspiracy.
2. But I guess even those Hindus who think ecology is important do not understand its centrality to the Hindu consciousness. Let me dwell on just a single aspect here to impress upon you how important it really is.
3. In fact there is a reason our scriptures say that what was known as Ṛta in Kṛta Yuga is known as Dharma in later ages. This statement, in my view, is the most important and key insight into Indic Knowledge Tradition and also into what is Dharma, Nature, Culture and Rituals.

1. Hulikere Pond – A Hoysala Kalyāni near Hālibedū

It is a Kalyāni like many other temple ponds. A Hindu temple is never alone. It is never just the creation of man. It is always in a trivenī. There is always a great temple; sacred pond; and a sacred forest.

#Hoysalatemples
2. Many Kalyāni like this are built in the mirror image of the temple; as the temple above as the temple pond below; Upside Down, if you will.  It is because the Hindu universe repeats itself at many levels in sacred iterations. In micro and in macro.
3. And just like the temple contains the temple pond; the temple pond contains many temples. So it is not just repetition, not just iteration, but the inversion of the container and the contained. That which contains is also contained in what it contains.

1. A Konkan Monsoon

To have seen a Konkan Monsoon is to know serenity. The sheer lack of hurry as the rains are always pounding. The entire human world coming to a stop in a natural frenzy of water. The sense of being hemmed in by water from every side & yet a feeling of relief.
2. It is the time when culture takes a back seat, and Nature drives life visibly and palpably. Human world functions in public in the punctuated breaks between bouts of rain and again recedes insides homes and shelters when the rain comes.
3. Sometimes the break doesn’t happen for two or three days at a stretch. Life is mostly inside the houses watching the heavens pouring tumblers after tumblers just outside your window.
