The fact that is widely circulated about the Sikh Reference Library is that it was burned down to ashes by the army, which has been refuted. The library was LOOTED.
According to Sardar Davinder Singh Duggal and his wife who were the then in-charge of the library, the Library was completely intact, without any damage till the morning of 7th June. The claim of Sikh Literature in the library being burnt down has been REFUTED by the in-charge.
The ashes found in the library after the Operation were of OLD NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES. The contents of the Library were loaded fully into 200 SACKS onto 12 TRUCKS on 7 June by the army and police and taken to Amritsar Youth Hostel, which were further sent to Delhi by flight.
Around 1991-92, the Govt asked the concerned parties to come to Delhi and collect some library records, where they MISTAKENLY handed over the library accession registers. Indirectly, the Govt said, ‘Here’s a list of what all we looted but we won’t actually return anything to you’
In 2002, Bhai Satnam Singh filed a case in Punjab and Haryana High Court demanding a return of the contents of the Sikh Reference Library. In response, the Judge ordered that all the literature should be returned. But no concrete step was taken.
The Government had indirectly admitted many times that it possesses the contents of the Sikh Reference Library.
Some portion of the library was returned in several instalments, but still MAJORITY of the contents’ are not with us, and we have no idea about the their whereabouts.
The library consisted of about 200 self written Hukamnamas by Guru Sahibs, 20,000 old documents and manuscripts, 2500 hand written Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and other historical texts, which are the PRICELESS JEWELS of Sikhi🙏.
The way the Government, the Army, the CBI and SGPC too are running out of answers for the Kaum, One day these questions will also cease to exist.
Now it is the duty of the Sikh community to use the court order as a weapon and carry the fight for our TREASURE forward.
