Review into Smokefree 2030. gov.uk/government/pub… My 15 recommendations identify a holistic response to #makingsmokingobsolete. However, I have identified 4 without which the government will not meet Smokefree 2030. #khanreview
First, I am calling for increased additional investment of £125m per year. Funding for smoking cessation and tobacco control has reduced year on year – this must be reversed to address the scale of the challenge. #investnow#khanreview
Second, to increase the age of sale for all tobacco products, by one year, every year, until no one can buy a tobacco product in this country. #StoptheStart#khanreview
Thirdly, we know that vaping is an extremely effective quit tool. We need to do more to promote its use in quitting, while also doing more to protect children and young people from starting to vape. #SwaptoStop#khanreview
finally, we need to improve the focus of prevention in the NHS. Every interaction a smoker has with the health service must lead to initial advice on stopping smoking, and this must be embedded across primary care. #makingsmokingobsolete#khanreview
The benefits of making smoking obsolete are a multitude- whether in population health, social or economic benefits. The government’s levelling up ambitions cannot be fully delivered without tackling smoking.#makingsmokingobsolete#KhanReview
