tgcf au canon divergence where lqq decided to curse xl as a flower instead of nailing him to the coffin.

🌸 a threadfic
Deep down the ruins of the old ancient city of Yong An, there lies a tower hidden behind a protective array. It was said that a powerful being was kept there, locked away, until the end of time.
The being couldn't die, even when a powerful cultivator stabbed the being for a hundred times it still wouldn't die.

The Royals of Yong An did everything they could to kill the creature.

They tried every weapon.

They even employed the power of the Gods.
But alas, the creature still persists to live.

Left with no choice, the then crown prince of Yong An decided to put the creature under a powerful curse.

A curse to put an 'end' to the evil creature.

He decided that the being will be turned into a flower.
The common people was aghast.

"Why a flower?" they asked.

But the crown prince kept mum.

Instead he said, "The creature will be turned into a flower as punishment. A year for every human he killed at the gilded banquet."

He thinks, it was /mercy/.
He wouldn't kill it.

He /couldn't/ even if he tried.

And besides, he thinks that isolation for hundreds of years will be a merciful punishment.

Away from everyone and everything.
That by doing so, he gives the creature a chance to repent. A chance to change–

And besides, he was his Goushi's pride and joy. His perfect student.

The crown prince knows by his goushi's standards–

This sentence was only fair.
And so they turned the creature into a flower.

Surprisingly so, it offered no resistance and just willingly stood there, stiff and silent as their crown prince placed the curse upon it.
They then placed the flower on a hidden tower. Locked it inside the highest room, enclosed with the most powerful wards ever to exist.

No human cultivator could ever break it.

The common people rejoiced the day the creature was no more.

The kingdom was in peace once again.
Seasons passed like water.

Their crown prince ascended into a god.

Their next royals stepped up to bring more prosperity into their Kingdom.

Everyone moved on, and forgot the creature turned flower.
All the people who lived to tell the tale of the cursed monster of Yong An lived their happy lives and passed away in peace.

But the flower stayed where it was placed.

Time didn't help. It was slow for him.

Cruelly so.

And with only its own mind as its only company.
It slowly lost it's sense of self.

Lost the memories it used to have.

Lost the memories of what it used to be.

Lost it all over the course of time.

The people it met, the emotions it felt, all gone.
Seasons passed, then turned into years, there's no voice left inside its head.

No thoughts, no emotions.

Perhaps it was better this way.

That the creature became just like an ordinary flower.

A pretty thing, merely decoration for one's eye.

Free from the world's shackle.
And the world continues on, time stops for no one.

The once prosperous kingdom of Yong An falls like it's predecessor.

The crown prince turned god continues to live on. Righting every injustice he sees, helping the common people in the name of righteousness.
No one remembers the creature turned flower.

Well, no /human/ remembers.

It was remembered by the crown prince turned god.

It was remembered by low level ghosts, the ones who heard the story and used it as a precautionary tale.

'Beware of the flower who killed hundreds!'
But you see, the tales they remembered was a warped one. Some details were changed to suit the audience, some were embellished, some were even completely cut out of the story.

(Only two people knows the true story now.)

But there was one thing everyone agreed upon.
That should the flower escape the tower, madness would descent upon the world.

And so, no human ever tried breaching the wards.

Even if hundreds of years had passed, the barrier stood strong and withstood the test of time.
And the flower was still there, left where it was placed by the crown prince.

Forgotten by everyone.

Well almost everyone.

600 years had passed by the outside world.

Inside the wards, the flower was on its last cycle.
A year for every human that was killed.

All 600 of them.

And 600 years had passed already.

Devastation would soon come.

Or so it was said.
The tavern goes quiet as the story ended. The storyteller smiled and waited for their reactions.

They didn't have to wait long enough.

"That's the most bullshit story I've ever heard in centuries!" said ghost #1 banging his hands on the table making the cups and dishes rattle.
The ghost waitress nearby glared at their table while ghost #1 smiled sheepishly.

"So you're telling me there's some magical flower out there? And that when unleashed, it will bring chaos?" ghost #2 hummed, fanning himself closely. A calculative glint in his eyes.
"wait, WAIT! YOU SAID IT'S IN YONG AN RIGHT?" yelled ghost #3. The storyteller looked at him and nodded.

"Yes. If you're interested, I have a map that'll lead you there!" The storyteller said, smile widening as he saw their interest grew more.
"I'll give it to you, for a price."

It wasn't long before all three ghosts began clamoring for the storyteller to release the map to them.

The price wasn't cheap. The money he named was so high, eyebrows would raise through the roof.
But the storyteller was also good at being a salesman. Thus, the map was sold to the three ghosts.

As the sun began to set, the tavern came to a hush as its customers began to dwindle.
The storyteller was at the tavern's entrance waving goodbye at the three ghosts as they began their journey towards the ancient kingdom of Yong An.

He stood there for a while, watching the orange sky turn dark.

"You've been watching us for a while. State what you want."
The ghost woman hiding behind the pillar smiled innocently as she can. She wasn't being subtle at watching the group.

She was there when the storyteller enticed the three ghosts to a story. And she listened from beginning to end.
"The story." the ghost began, "It's real right?"

"It's as real as you and me, little one. Didn't you listen?" The storyteller replied, making eye contact with her.

"But you've scammed those ghosts for the map." she said frowning.
"Hmm, did I? did I not?" The storyteller shrugged.

"Ah but what does it matter? I gave them what they want, in return I get what I want. Isn't it a fair deal?"
"What they wanted was the flower. Yet you've sent those ghosts for nothing. They will not find the flower. It's as you said earlier, no one could break the barriers set upon the tower." She states to him, and the storyteller gave a chuckle at her tirade
"No /human/ could ever break the barrier." The storyteller lightly corrected.

He then points a finger towards her and grins, "We're not human anymore right? Whether or not those ghost could break the barrier... Well, it's up to them if they can live up to the task."
"They're dead meat for sure." she mumbles and turns away.

"They're already dead. What's one more?"

"Is the life of those ghosts mean nothing to you?" She questions in return.

"I like you." The storyteller says, eye twinkling with amusement.
"What?" The ghost woman was befuddled. What is with this man?

But instead of answering, he asked another question.

"Hypothetically, let's say you have the power to break the barrier, will you release the flower?" He questions.

"Of course." The ghost woman answered.
"To unleash the promised devastation?"

"To set it free." She said without hesitation. The man looked at her, eyes scanning her face.

He must've seen something because the question he asked next was the one the ghost woman said earlier.
"But it killed 600 humans, do their lives mean nothing? Didn't they also deserved justice?"

"Justice was already served. Thats why the flower was locked away for 600 years. And didn't the crown prince also wanted to give the flower a chance to change?"
"Hmm, he did. But that's naive thinking. What if the flower didn't change? What if by setting it free you'll release the being that'll cause the end of the world? What then?"

For a moment, the ghost woman was silent.
The storyteller was right in some ways.

It may seem cruel, but he was right. Who's to know what'll happen when the flower is released?

By keeping it locked away, the world will always be at peace.

The ghost woman bows her head in contemplation.

But...
The world isn't always black and white.

Sometimes there's no distinct line, some of it was muddled in shades of gray.

If the flower is still evil after all this time...

The ghost woman snaps her head upright as she finally realised the answer.
"Who's to say it's evil at all?" She began. "The flower didn't react at all to being subjected to a curse! If it's some super evil being like you said why didn't he just kill all those royals who survived?"

"Why did he just accepted it all without a word?"
"The flower was powerful enough to kill hundreds of humans in one night! What's a few more right? It could kill all of them if he's really that powerful but instead he just accepts the punishment? Something isn't right!"
The words were said in a rapid pace that by the end of it, the ghost woman was huffing and catching her breath.

She expects the man to be angry or maybe annoyed at her poking holes in his story but the storyteller just looks at her.

Like he's seeing through her.
"He? My, you talk as if the flower is a human."

"Isn't he? Your words earlier says he has emotions, memories, a consciousness. The flower was self aware, and he was lonely and alone for a long time. You implied that him forgetting who he once was a blessing instead of a curse."
"What kind of evil creature is that pitiful? He deserves a chance to live again. Outside the barrier. Outside the tower. Here! In the real world!" She says with conviction, eyes lit up with passion.

She feels very strongly for the flower.

She knows, the flower deserves more.
She believes the flower deserves a second chance.

A new beginning in life.

"You're right."

"I am?" The ghost woman asks confused, why didn't the storyteller rebuke her like before?

"Yes, Here." He says and tosses her a tiny object which she catches with her hand.
"What am I gonna do with this?" she asks incredulously

"You want to free the flower right? Use that thing. The barrier will let you in. Remember, the flower is at the highest room."

"Wait, what are you—"
"I told you, I like you. You get what you want, I get what I want. It's a fair deal." The storyteller says and walks a few paces, putting a space between them. He then pulls out a talisman paper behind his sleeves and rips it.
"Good luck." The storyteller says as a good bye.

The ghost woman was so shock, she didn't immediately react as the scenery before her began to change. The storyteller's image was gone in a blink of an eye.
The storyteller smiles to himself as the woman was transported.

He walks away from the tavern and his skin began to change forms.

His purpose was done. He wants nothing to do with the world anymore.

"My debt is cleared alright? We're even now." He says to the wind.
Once upon a time, he knew the flower.

It was kind, loyal and believes in the goodness of the common people.

He was naive, but he's true at heart.

Like the ghost woman, he too believes that the flower deserves a second chance.
The storyteller owes him a great debt, and now 600 years later that debt is repaid.

"Live well this time, Taizi Dianxia."

With nothing tying him now to the world, the story teller began to dissipate.
One last time he thinks of the prince who was turned into a flower and began to wonder how will he live his second chance at life.

He also thinks of the 'ghost woman' who he's sent to free the prince.

A bit of an odd ghost, seriously who wears an outfit all red like that?
And really, the ghost didn't even act like a woman at all!

But, odd ghost nature aside.

The ghost was also passionate.

/Too/ passionate for his tastes perhaps but he thinks Taizi Dianxia deserves to be the subject of that passion.

It'll be fine.

He knows he chose well.
He spent hundreds of years looking for the right person who'll free the crown prince.

He knows that he'll be leaving Taizi Dianxia in good hands.

The story teller smiles for the last time, he looks at the world before him and disappears into nothingness.
