691-Yakuza 2 (2006)

Of course, everyone heard of the Yakuza games. I never played one, I guess it's about a bunch of silly dudes doing some antics and dancing sometimes. Yes
692-Dead Rising (2006)

Awesome gameplay loop, but let's be honest, very poor execution as a whole. It's way better to mess around than doing anything useful. Still a yes, the number of ennemies on screen is still very impressive. Image
693-Defcon (2006)

Yeah it's War Games, even the book say it's War Games . It's the kind of hard strategy game that could have been a 1980 computer game, or a board game for a very niche brand of nerd, now it's a modern retro looking game that looks so anxiety inducing. Yes. Image
694-Eets (2006)

Yay, Eets. Everyone know Eets, right??? It's... I dunno it looks like a Flash game but it's was release on PC... And... I don't really know what to say about that, we can pass. Image
695-Eledees (2006)

Get it? It's Eledees = LED eheh. Yeah we finally reached the Wii era, it's motion gaming time! This game wasn't a launch title but I swear it looks like one, I always wanted to try it sounds so weird. Yes. Image
696-Elite Beat Agents (2006)

An overly japanese game about men cheerleader, if I understand the plot correctly. It's a rythm game with the kind of gameplay of button you have to manually click with a mouse or touchpad, is there a name for this? Anyway yes. Image
697-Tomb Raider Legend (2006)

First Tomb Raider game of the book since the first one. Comment on Lara Croft clothes, snarky remark about Angel of Darkness, yeah everything's here for this three paragraph review. I'm gonna pass on this one. Image
698-Exit 2 (2006)

A stylised puzzle platformer on PSP, okay why not. Yes. Image

There hasn't been a lot of realisting boxing games on this book, huh ? Apparently this game was a big deal technically, with fluid animations and "high speed transmission", whatever that mean. Okay yes. Image
701-Table Tennis (2006)

It's a simple as it sounds: it's table tennis. And it was made... By Rockstar???? Okay why not. Apparently there was a Wii version and I can't imagine how nightmarish it was to control. Yes Image

704-Art Style: Orbient (2006)

A two button game that sounds super interesting: you are a planet and you have to get bigger by attracting or pushing away things. You can be attracted by others bigger planet and getting in orbit with them. Big yes. Image
705-Final Fantasy XII (2006)

A Final Fantasy game that tried many new things, but was a commercial failure. It was the time the FF games started to get really linear, isn't it? I'm still gonna include it because it tried a new dynamic fighting system and I think that's nice. Image
706-Okami (2006)

I mean, yeah of course big yes. I should try it one day. Image
707-God Hand (2006)

711-Hitman: Blood Money (2006)

Oh boy we're still in sequel land. Listen I think we can skip most Hitman game from this era they kinda look the same except with improved graphics and a somewhat impopular shift toward action. Pass Image
712- Jeanne d'Arc (2006)

Oh my god I didn't know they waifu-ified Jeanne d'Arc, it's so funny. Don't show this to some french politicans they would instantly die. Alright yes. Image

714- Just Cause (2006)

A game about the most unkillable person. Honestly I don't know why he bother about helping the revolution, he can take out the whole government by himself with a gun and half a bag of chips. Still a lot of fun, yes. Image
715-Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (2006)

The kinda forgotten PSP episode of Metal Gear, taking place after Snake Eater. It introduced a lot of mechanics that would reappear in Phantom Pain, but I don't know I feel like it's skippable. Image
716-Gunpey (2006)

Okay this one is just weird. It's named after Gunpei Yokoi, but it wasn't from one of his designs, but from another guy, and then was ported to modern console by another unrelated company? Honestly I'm just confused by the gameplay, let's say no. Image
717-Mercury Meltdown (2006)

A "Marble Madness"-like game but with fluid physics, okay I'm intrigued, yes. Image

Apparently the game recreated perfectly some classic pinball game with very advanced physics, and okay I can respect that. yes. Image

Awh come on we already got the first Lumines and I wasn't 100% on board with that. Let's just skip this one. Image
722-Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends (2006)

Some fantasy game with a lot of lore and cool looking design and I don't know I can't have an opinion on every game so okay why not. Image
723-Medieval II: Total War (2006)

"The least well-made Total War" so why the heck is it here??? I mean I guess it's a classic so why not but why on Earth do you start by saying this? Image

The great technical achievement of 2006 with some of the ugliest characters ever modelized in 3D. Of course yes. Image
728-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (2006)

It's a great game and a great Zelda, some awesome design and a very large world. But today this game is less fondly remembered than Wind Waker. OH THE IRONY. Big yes of course. Image
The Zelda serie could have been way more fun if Wind Waker hasn't been mocked for its graphics...
729- Viva Piñata (2006)

More than 15 years later I find it hilarious that they tried to make this game look like a bigger deal than it really was. It's a virtual pet simulator! A creative one but come on it's not like the next mascott of the Xbox. Still a yes though. Image
"Microsoft ruined Rare's potential" nah most of the creators you love left Rare way before this. It was just Rare by name.
730-Trauma Center: Second Opinion (2006)

Okay they remade the excellent DS game for the Wii but I can't imagine playing this game for a long period of time, poiting the remote at the TV, without hurting my wrist. the first game was already perfect, pass. Image
731-Slaves to Armok II: Dwarf Fortress (2006)

Wait, that's the full name? Anyway obviously yes and I'll never be able to play this game. Also apparently during the playthrough of the reviewer he had to wall up a dwarf because he wanted to turn the others dwarfs into boots. Okay. Image
732-Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (2006)

I'll say yes but come on book get your shit together. Image
733-Tony Hawk's Project 8 (2006)

After only one Tony Hawk game featured in the book, we got... This one no one remembers. It's open world so that's nice I guess. Like I said forever ago, in 2010 they didn't get enough foresight to know which 2000s game would become classics. Image
734-Virtua Fighter 5 (2006)

The previous Virtua Fighter featured was for 1993, and I don't know enough about Fighting game to have an opinion so I'll just say yes. Image
735-Virtua Tennis 3 (2006)

I guess the Virtua Fighters characters decided to go tennis. I think. Anyway okay why not it's tennis.

... Wait it came out on arcade??? Image
736-Wii Sports (2006)

The best selling game of all time in 2006 that beat 1985 Super Mario Bros. Of course it's a yes. Like the book said, it most clever trick is to be able to hide the flaws in the motion gaming engine. Image
737-Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (2006)

The sequel to the classic adventure game, that tried to shake up the point n click formula by... Adding combat sequences?

I don't think this game ever live up to the previous title, so pass. Image
738-Rayman Raving Rabbids (2006)

Yeah everyone know the story about the pitch being way different. But look at this game: it managed to kill Rayman AND several years laters it inspired the creation of the Minions. Absolute power move, yes. Image
Also, as a side note: there's a Rabbids theme park ride in France and yes I rode it and yes it's terrible. Image

744- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2007)

Okay, it's still kinda pro-army, but the story was very nuanced for its time, something the Call of Duty franchise will never achieve again. It's a very good FPS, the "last good Call of Duty" to some and you know, I can't disagree. yes. Image
745-Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery (2007)

It's colonialism simulator: now on Nintendo DS! Okay so I have to take the book's words for it but apparently it -kinda- deconstruct the early History of America, but I don't know. Still, a strategy game on DS is uncommon so yes. Image

Geez can you get a longer name please? Anyway it's been almost ten years since the last FF Tactics so okay. Image

750-Free Running (2007)
Okay, seriously, apparently this game sold very poorly but inspired the Assassin's Creed saga, soooo... I guess okay???

The cover is hilarious though Image
751-FLatOut: Ultimate Carnage (2007)

Oh yes, with the increasing power of computers and the ability to render more and more polygons, what do you think devs would do? BIG CAR GO BOOM. Yes. Image
752-Crysis (2007)

Yeah, the big outdoor FPS that blew everyone's mind with the incredible graphics... If you had a beast of a computer. Me? I didn't cared all I was thinking was "THEY DECIDED TO MAKE CRYSIS 3 BUT GIVE UP ON TIMESPLITTER 4? FUK OFF!"

Still a yes Image
753-Flywrench (2007)

Never heard of this game but gosh dang it look at thoses minimalistic graphics? Big yes! Image
754-E4 (2007)

The sequel of E3? Nah, some game that look like it need a big "epilepsy warning" label on it. Apparently it's a game about chain reaction, like thoses Flash game you used to play in early 2000s. Okay it looks fun and interesting, yes. Image
755-Final Fantasy IV (2007)

According to the book the best way to enjoy FF IV is the 2007 port in 3D and okay it might be but when did "HD remake of games" became pillar of video game history? Pass. Image
756-Desktop Tower Defense (2007)

Yay I'm always happy to see Flash games on this book, but this one is a bit surprising. I knew it was popular, but worthy of being in the book?... Oh it has a Wikipedia page? Okay yes. Image
757-Riff: Everyday Shooter (2007)

A weird AF mix between a rythm game and a shoot em up. It's better to see it for yourself. I don't know if it's fun but it's original enough so yes.
758-MotorStorm (2007)

Big car go brrrrr. The book say it's one of the first example of an online patch after a very bad first retail version. Okay so I think we can skip this one. Image

762-GrimGrimoire (2007)

A *check notes* turn based time loop strategy game. Okay why not. The book note that the european version allowed the players to keep the original japanese tracks, "showing that videogame culture was changing"... I guess? Yes. Image

775-Pac-Man Championship Edition (2007)

776-Peggle (2007)

The Peggle fandom is dying, retweet if you like to peg from time to time. Image
777-Puzzle League (2007)

778-Puzzle Quest (2007)

That's a looooot of puzzle games in a row, my dude. but this one is original because it's a RPG but it's also a match 3 game, and one of the first of its kind, so yes. Image

783-Retro Game Challenge (2007)

Okay, I try to understand the pitch: it's based on a TV show about a guy trying to beat very hard NES games (so a let's play on the japanese TV), and this game is based on that show? It's about playing old games and talking about thoses games? Image
I... Love this idea??? I always wanted a big budget game that talk about games and it's basically it? A bit like Scott Mc Cloud Invisible art...

831- Fallout 3 (2008)

You probably heard about the game, but never played it. It's this kind of "art game" people say it's better to read about or watch a video about than actually playing it. But it actually try to be poetic without bullshitting you, so yes. Image
958-EyePet (2009)

This silly little guy woud fit in a blender, easily. After "motion control" there was the "camera control" that failed so hard. So i'm gonna say yes just because of that weird era and because there's not EyeToy in the book. Image
959-Rhythm Paradise (2009)

I *love* this game. It also broke me emotionally because I have no sense of rhythm. Big yes, would recommend to my enemies. Image
960-Rolando 2 (2009)

Rolando, from Rolando, is back in Rolando 2. Famous character Rolando is back and be sure he... Uh I guess roll around? "This game showed the potential of Iphone as a game platform" yeah sure and twelve years later we saw what it became. pass. Image
961-Resident evil 5 (2009)

Agree, making a sequel to a game that redefined the action genre is an impossible task... That's why they failed. Pass.
962- Sin & Punishment: Successor to the Sky(2009)

Yeah in the book is "Successor TO the Sky", and not "OF the sky". Huh. Is it... Is it Final Fantasy with guns and bikes? Hell yeah. Image
963-The Sims 3 (2009)

The previous Sims was a cultural phenomenon at the time, and this one... Was pretty big too I think? It improved a lot of things so it's a yes. Image
964- Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor (2009)

This game kinda remind me of that old PC game Bad Mojo. Sounds like an interesting pitch, a spider simulator with environmental storytelling in background. Okay yes. Image
965-Skate 2 (2009)

There's not that much skate game in the book despite being a huge genre. It's a yes for this one but it's too bad they didn't included the glitchy mess Skate 3. Image
966-Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009)

I have been told this one is better than the first. I guess that's what happen when you have many charts to... Unchart... Whatever yes Image
967-The Beatles: Rock Band (2009)

Interesting choice of band for a game. I guess the rhythm games at the time targeted older casual gamers. Also apparently Yoko Ono was involved in the making of the game. lmao. But nah no need for every Rock band game Image
968-Starship Patrol (2009)

Hey a DSi game. Looks interesting, made me remember of that one pen and paper games with aliens. Okay yes. Image
969-Scribblenaut (2009)

The best game of "mess around and find out". Doesn't care about the puzzle all I want is spawning every dumb stuff I think about and make them fight. Huge yes. This game also did a lot for the Sprite Comic community Image
970-Trine (2009)

Is this what the kids call "2.5D"? Looks cool though, yes. Image
971-The Dishawher: Dead Samurai (2009)

What. Does. This. Name. Means. The pitch sounds so much like a Flash game and I'm all here for it. Image
972-Shadow Complex (2009)

They did it. The book managed to say this game was a mix between Castlevania and Metroid without using the cursed word. Wow i'm impressed. Oh about the game? I don't know looks exactly like every game of this era but the pitch is intriguing so okay Image
973-Red Faction Guerilla (2009)

A shooter with an entirely destructible environment. Sounds like a nightmare to code. Okay yes. Image
974-You, Me & the Cubes (2009)

Throw your little guys and make sure they don't die. Sounds fun as hell, okay. Image
975-Torchlight (2009)

I might be cynical but it looks like every free to play smartphone game released thoses past five years. But I think this one is a big deal so okay Image
976-The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (2009)

Zelda with trains is... Sure a concept. I don't know if it's a good game or not but there's already many Zelda games on the book and this one can make room for a better one later. Pass. Image
977-Zen Bound (2009)

I guess it's exactly what it looks like. I have to admit, looks like very relaxing and original. Okay Image
978-Reflect Missile (2009)

Okay no sorry I already saw fifty ads for smartphone games like this. Pass. Image
979- Space Invaders Infinite Genes (2009)

Should we care for every Space Invader versions ever made? Looks nice, and you can add effect and all but by the end of the day it's Space Invaders. Pass Image
980-Muramasa: The Demon Blade (2009)

Wow this actually look very good. Big Yes Image
The game that was supposed to be 373-Xenogears (1998)

The game is an ambitious project telling a story that takes place during more than 10000 years... Then they ran out of money and concluded the story with a cutscene. So the average solo indie gamedev. Big yes. Image
The game that was supposed to 374-Panzer Dragoon Saga (1998)

Ooooh and here I was, criticizing the book for not including the original Panzer game. How silly of me. Also: I'm very tired. So let's just say yes and move on. Image
983-Zeno Clash (2009)

A... First person fighting game... With the Source engine??? Okay, sounds weird and interesting, why not. Image
984-Mighty Flip Champs (2009)

The pitch in theory is interesting... But at least 15 Flash games have been made years before with the same concept. Pass. Image
985-Tiger Wood PGA Tour 10 (2009)

The most recent golf game in 2010 so it's there. Why not. Image
986-NBA 2K10 (2009)

Latest sport thing, yes and move on Image
987-Cogs (2009)

A litteral puzzle box. It's a nice concept of puzzle game so okay. Image
988-Wii Sports Resort (2009)

The sequel to the famous... tech demo Wii Sports. I guess we can do without. Image
989-A Boy and His Blob (2009)

The remake to a NES game that wasn't featured on the book so okay. Image
990-PixelJunk Shooter (2009)

A game about fluid physic. I mean, yeah, game with sand physics are fun as hell to mess around with so okay. Image
991-Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War II (2009)

We already got the first dawn of war so pass. I want this thread to be over please don't ask me about games I don't care about. Image
992-Time Gentlemen, Please! (2009)

Ooooh a Ben and Dan game, neat! I mean I never played any of them but I heard they were great. Okay yes. Image
This is it, the final stretch. The 2010s, the last part of the book. Nine games released the same year the book was made. Let's see which game make the cut. Image
993-Max and the Magic Marker (2010)

I'm gonna say yes, not because the game is interesting, it look boring as heck, but because touch gaming sure was a thing at some point in time. Image
994-VVVVVV (2010)

Oh my god yes, a thousand time yes. One of my favorite indie game, the one that made me want to seriously make games. So simple in theory, yet so clever. Image
995-Mass Effect 2 (2009)

I think it's a great game, also it's not Mass Effect 3, the game that made everyone realize how insufferable gamers are. Okay yes. Image
996-BioShock 2 (2009)

I often heard it was very underrated, the best BioShock game. I don't know. I liked the first BioShock but in retrospect, putting this franchise on a pedestal and saying it was the best example of videogame as a respectable art form was a big mistake.

Pass Image
997-Army of Two: The 40th Day (2009)

Look at any screenshot of this game and you'll understand what "pandering to a specific audience" will really mean. But okay Image
998-Heavy Rain (2009)

-deep sigh-

Even if we put aside the fact that the game designer is a huge piece of garbage... Was it *truly* the game that made the medium as respectable as movies? Image
I can't believe gamers spent years bashing the walking simulator genre but went nut for this. It's an interactive movie, does that make it a good game? Is a "playable movie" a good movie?

Why we always chase the respectability of videogame through the eyes of other art forms?
I will say yes, not because I think it's a good game. But because... Ahem... This is an important shift in the videogame discourse and we can't avoid it.

Moving on.
999-Chime (2009)

Some kind of "anti-tetris" that sounds kinda weird, but also interesting. Okay yes. Image
1000-Neptune's Pride (2009)

Back in the early internet there were games played via emails. Years later we have this, it's interesting to see how things advanced. Okay yes. Image
1001-

Okay hear me out. For the final game of the whole book, we have...
Alien Zombie Death

A forgotten PSP shooter that look like this.
Wow.
You... You really ran out of ideas huh Image

HERE COME THE (NEW) MEGA THREAD!

August 24th, I saved every game released on @itchio in 24 hours. And I am gonna play (most of) them all.

Let's go!🧵 Image
@itchio I love @itchio, I think it is a wondeful website. It can be used as a social website, or as a store for any of your projects.

A lot of things can be put on Itchio: Comics, tools, etc... But games are clearly what the website was made for: itch.io/games
Itchio is like Steam with a very low barrier of entry. If it is not straight up illegal content, you can put it on the website, charge money for it or not.

And a LOT of games are published on Itchio. Image
