They came for the Junior Doctors, the nurses, the teachers, (the victims of Windrush will tell you this is nothing new). Ask those who have spent 5 years campaigning for justice for Grenfell. You are most valuable to the government as hate figures. As those to be “othered”.
White privilege can be broadly defined by the ability to simply not pay attention to what is happening to those around you because it does not effect you. Therefore it’s not your problem. But now is the time to stand up. To scream “No! We will not accept this. We stand with YOU.”
I have warned for many years that we are slipping into a democratic coma. We are watching the totally erosion of what those who fought in WW2 have their lives for. Liberty and freedom and recognition of common humanity. It is a betrayal of their generations sacrifice.
Creeping fascism is just that. It creeps. In the shadows. Stalking and waiting for the outpouring of hatred. Engulfing reason and justifying the unjustifiable. And all it takes is for good people to watch and do nothing. The deportation of the desperate and vulnerable is a crime.
I believe we are better that this. That we have forgotten the huge power of collective action. So I ask you. Shout from the rooftops. Tweet, email, rally, protect. Or democracy will go to its grave and Facsism will provable in Great Britain.
