Package A: TV rights for entire season (Bought by star).
Package B: Digital rights for entire season( Bought by Viacom 18,jio subpart).
Package D: international coverage (Bought by Times internet).
Package C in detail👇
Package C(Masterclass): Non-exclusive digital rights for 18 match per season (Matches like Playoffs, finals, weekend match etc). This was bought by Viacom 18.
Non exclusive basically means that this 18 matches will be streamed by winner of package C along with package B winners.
Package C is bought by Viacom 18 (same guys who bought package B),looks dumb na? It's NOT.
Some might think why would Viacom buy package C when they've already bought B. It's all about exclusivity. If someone else would've bought package C, then Viacom loses its exclusivity.
For an assumption let's say Hotstar gets package C. Then they could stream this matches for free and actually just increase the Ad rates. Remember package C has most important matches so viewership is always gonna be high and even more when given for free. And that's a big loss..
..big loss to Package B winners (Viacom 18). Viewership would've split bw two different entities when it's supposed to be the highest. Package C was essentially to blackmail winners of package B, to artificially increase the price of digital rights. This was a masterclass.
Viacom had to buy it and they did. Package C paid it's returns to Bcci immensely.
As @KShriniwasRao Said in one of his tweets, whoever wins this packages at the end BCCI's tender system is the winner and Package C is the man of the match.
