Ricky Lee on being named National Artist for film and broadcast arts: I am happy with the message that it sends that scriptwriters are last filmmakers... This is a way of reminding people na nandito kami. Kami yung pinagmulan ng pelikulang ginawa.

Ricky Lee: Noong nalaman ko na papangaralan ako as National Artist, ang gusto kong gawin agad puntahan lahat ng scritpwriters na kakilala ko at sabihing, atin ito. Para sa atin.

Ricky Lee: I hope it inspires them and encourages them to work harder kasi mahirap na trabaho ang magsulat ng script… Underappreciated ka. I think ma-inspire sila na to write more, to work more.

Ricky Lee: I had to get involved during Martial Law years.

Ricky Lee: I’ll be writing the same things that I've been writing I’ll be thinking the same things that I've been thinking.

Ricky Lee: I think kaya ako bibigyan ng ganitong parangal kasi naa-appreciate nila yung mga sinulat ko before so I think it will just encourage me to write more, work harder, tell more stories.

Ricky Lee to young writers: Don’t be the next Ricky Lee. Be who you are, be the best that you can be as you. Learn from me but be yourself. Keep an open mind, open heart, open soul. And keep your eyes open, kung anong katotohanan sa paligid because that’s what you’ll write about.
