Played my first demo of #SteamNextFest: Signalis. Somewhat interesting pixel art design, but horrible, overly complicated controls made me lose interest in a few minutes. Scratch that off the list. store.steampowered.com/app/1262350/SI…
Second demo of #SteamNextFest was Melatonin, which is a fun little rhythm game with a unique visual style and interface. I more or less played the entire thing. store.steampowered.com/app/1585220/Me…
Third game I checked out for #SteamNextFest was Naiad. It's like a low budget Abzu, meant to be colorful and relaxing. The music was nice, but I found it too bland to keep my interest. store.steampowered.com/app/1813860/NA…
More demos! Number four was Retreat to Enen. It's a bog-standard open world survival crafting game. After drinking water per the tutorial instructions, a pathogen got inside me, and I died before the first day ended. So this game pretty much sucks. Avoid. store.steampowered.com/app/1556490/Re…
Fifth game demo I tried was Sweet Transit. It's somewhere between the old Railroad Tycoon games and a city simulator. Seems solid for its type, but I felt like it was too much work and not what I'm in the mood for. store.steampowered.com/app/1612770/Sw…
Demo six was one I had high hopes for, but didn't thrill me: Brewmaster. I've brewed a lot in real life, and the game is pretty accurate on the recipes, math, etc, but it felt like it was too detailed on some things and ignored others. Only so-so, sadly. store.steampowered.com/app/1569200/Br…
Demo seven: Toilet Chronicles is classic YouTube bait and not interesting to me at all. I was expecting something different. #SteamNextFest store.steampowered.com/app/1946550/To…
A brief glance at the trailer made demo eight, Grunnd, seem interesting, but it ended up being rather dull. It's trying too hard to create intrigue with a weird setting, music, and people, but everything came off as random and disorganized. #SteamNextFest store.steampowered.com/app/1449920/GR…
Last demo of the night for #SteamNextFest is Ghost Song, which, despite its rather generic name, has an appealing art style and an interesting setting. It's probably the best demo I've tried so far. I'll probably play it some more tomorrow for that matter. store.steampowered.com/app/347800/Gho…
Big number ten on the #SteamNextFest demo adventure is Poly Vita. It's a minimalist puzzle game that seems to be a mobile port. It only had six demo levels, and was decent, but the controls weren't great, unsurprisingly. store.steampowered.com/app/1831410/Po…
Demo eleven for #SteamNextFest was the quite unenjoyable Space Mechanic Simulator. Gameplay was both overly simplistic and overly complicated, with a poor UI. It was a combination of tedium and confusion. store.steampowered.com/app/429380/Spa…
Another demo for #SteamNextFest: Sapiens. It's a stone age city builder more or less. Moderately entertaining and has potential. But I wasn't in the mood to keep playing, since I want to keep trying more demos. store.steampowered.com/app/1060230/Sa…
Just tried Get Out of My Space for #SteamNextFest. It's a pretty basic turn-based tactics game, kind of like a reverse X-COM, but without the story. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but not that interesting either. store.steampowered.com/app/1930830/Ge…
I only played this because my son wanted to do multiplayer. It sucks. Huge head bob with no option to disable, an insanely loud an annoying monster, and after I died once the head bob turned up to 11, making it a puke fest. Avoid this trash. #SteamNextFest store.steampowered.com/app/1963190/Th…
Last game tonight for #SteamNextFest was Brotato, a very fun and frantic "twin-stick" shooter where all your weapons auto-attack. There are tons of weapons to choose from, as well as lots of upgrades. It's like Binding of Isaac meets Smash TV. Thumbs up! store.steampowered.com/app/1942280/Br…
More demos! Starting this morning with Master Key. Seems to be an adventure game in the style of the original Zelda. Music is fantastic, but graphics are poor: too far past retro and in the hard to look at zone. It didn't hold my interest. #SteamNextFest store.steampowered.com/app/1763030/Ma…
0 for 2 this morning on #SteamNextFest games. Underwater Space has terrible controls and was absolutely boring. Most unfortunate, because I thought it might be something like Subnautica with more combat. store.steampowered.com/app/1599070/Un…
Switched gears to something different and the played Monorail Stories demo for #SteamNextFest. It's a mixed bag. The music is wonderful, graphics are pleasantly retro, and characters seem decent. But the brief demo story wasn't very engaging overall. store.steampowered.com/app/1267070/Mo…
Man, I can't catch a break today with #SteamNextFest. I tried Organs Please, which seems to be a weird mix of Papers, Please and Fallout Shelter? The UI layout is bad, and it's too convoluted to just enjoy. Skip it. Still trying to find more fun games. store.steampowered.com/app/1593780/Or…
The Cub is a retro-ish platformer with an interesting setting and decent graphics, solid controls. The music ranges from halfway good to weird to lousy. Only issue: I don't financially support anti-capitalist products, so this is still a no. #SteamNextFest store.steampowered.com/app/1941410/Th…
This #SteamNextFest demo wasn't necessarily bad, but it seemed like too much effort to get into it. Subterrain: Mines of Titan has vague Fallout vibes, but there was too much exposition and not enough straightforward adventuring for a demo. store.steampowered.com/app/1573100/Su…
Tried a puzzle game for #SteamNextFest called Boxville. It wears its Machinarium inspiration on its sleeve with the art style and overall sensibilities. A couple of the puzzles were pretty illogical, but overall it wasn't bad. store.steampowered.com/app/1750710/Bo…
Moon Farming is the next game I tried for #SteamNextFest. It's about building a moon base, I guess, but it's not clear exactly what the end goal is. The demo was just basic food, water, and oxygen production. The English translation was a little rough too. store.steampowered.com/app/1366840/Mo…
Finally, a good game! Old Skies is the newest forthcoming game from Wadjet Eye, who have a track record of making rock-solid point-and-click adventure games. This demo sucked me in completely, and I'll definitely be buying the full release. #SteamNextFest store.steampowered.com/app/1346360/Ol…
Final game of the night for #SteamNextFest was also a good one. One Dreamer is somewhere between a point-and-click adventure and a coding game. It was heartfelt and also funny, without trying too hard. Adding it to my wishlist too. store.steampowered.com/app/1156380/On…
