After months of slanted coverage bashing Deshaun Watson, Florio/PFT reporting today on a "leak" of what his very compelling argument would be in appealing any suspension. Seems they might be bracing for no suspension to be issued with this pre-emptive explanation of why. #Browns
“Ownership and club or league management have traditionally been held to a higher standard and will be subject to more significant discipline when violations of the Personal Conduct Policy occur.”

If they're going to follow this they can't legitimately suspend Watson.
See below for more analysis of this issue that you won't get in the corporate press

Maybe Watson still gets suspended but it will be extremely difficult for the league to justify it on the current facts and this report from PFT represents a substantial shift that can be reasonably read as an effort to preemptively backtrack on their prior unbalanced coverage.
Here's more on another angle of this story that most folks are missing or getting exactly backwards:

Another key angle to this story that's being missed is re: #Dolphins’ offer of $100K to each accuser so they could sign Deshaun. Buzbee’s rejection of this (far more than he could reasonably expect to get in court) is more solid proof that he’s running a smear campaign. 🧵#Browns
Based on what’s been reported, including Watson’s public statement on Tues, this offer was contingent on all the accusers accepting. This is common in litigation. And it means that Buzbee only had to convince one of his clients to reject it to keep his smear campaign going.
Any lawyer who didn’t have ulterior motives would most surely have convinced his clients to accept this lucrative offer. Again, the great majority of the accusers allege no physical contact at all. $100K is an astronomical sum in such cases. No way they'd get that from a jury.

It's beyond dispute that elite athletes routinely pay "masseuses" for sex. Any reasonable assessment of Deshaun Watson's situation has to account for the probability that Tony Buzbee's clients are prostitutes "flipping" on Watson for the promise of an even bigger payday. #Browns ImageImageImageImage
Again, soliciting masseuses for sex might be a crime (in some states, anyway) but it's not sexual assault, and it doesn't justify a fraction of the opprobrium Watson has received re: Buzbee's lawsuits. Bob Kraft suffered zero consequences for being charged with solicitation.
Also, it's extremely naive to believe that star athletes of Watson's stature and wealth wouldn't have access to networks of "masseuses" to provide these services. It's undeniable that these networks are literally everywhere. ImageImageImageImage

OK so here’s a take on Deshaun Watson, “innocent until proven guilty,” and the Browns having signed the superstar quarterback who has been sued by 22 women—but cleared by a grand jury—for alleged sexual assault 🧵
First, this is absolutely not to excuse any grown adult for allowing their sense of well-being to rise or fall with the fortunes of the Cleveland Browns.
Second, of course, countless crimes go unpunished in this nation every day, for many bad and inexcusable reasons, especially when they’re committed by wealthy and powerful people.

Living in Ohio, as "purple" a state as there is in the U.S., I've had a front row seat to observe two distinct cultural responses to covid over the last 2 years: 🧵
1. Live in fear of the virus, cancel everything -- weddings, baptisms, Christmas, Thanksgiving, annual parties/picnics, whatever; isolate from relatives, including ancestors in their golden years, however much they're dying to see their kids & grandkids; social bonds wither; &...
2. There were people who for whatever reason, maybe just that they couldn't process it any other way, refused to live in fear of Covid and went on with their lives. Went on vacations, had parties, socialized as best they could, continued to regularly see their family & loved ones

There's no good reason that rapid covid tests are so scarce. They're scarce because the powers that be want us to be maximally inconvenienced and live in maximum fear of this virus so they can continue to reorder society to their benefit as the social fabric keeps deteriorating.
Now year 2 of holiday gatherings canceled, familial & social bonds continuing to diminish as we continue to be bombarded with propaganda conditioning us to disregard these social costs and live in terror of a virus with flu-like symptoms while billionaire wealth keeps exploding
Abbot Labs has a $250B market cap but it nor any other pharma/biotech behemoth in the world could have possibly anticipated demand for at-home testing of this seasonal virus over the holidays

🙀🤯

Mike, take a breather on this one buddy
