Hes one of the oldest HR activist of Kashmir who lives at the outskirts of Handwara. He lost his only son to ‘enforced disappearances’ two decades back by Indian military & since then he is fighting his battle: "Return my son".
+
On morning of Oct 20, 2000, Fatah -the son of Jamal & a vendor left for work but never returnd. His wife was pregnant bck then & had another toddler.
Villagers informed him that paramilitary abducted him & since then I visited every jail of state but couldn’t locate my son."
+
Jamal kept running from pillar to post in longing of his son.
At one point, he was at an army camp where some soldiers threatened him to stay silent & when he refused to do that, they hit his knees with rifles butt & made him permanently disable. The father still fighting!✊
Thread on some of the brutal tortures by US military carried out in Bagram airbase of Afghanistan & Guantanmo bay:-
1 - Nudity: This form of sexual humiliation relies on cultural & religious taboos, and requires detainees to be fully or partially naked during interrogation.
+
Nudity was also regularly combined with cold temp & cold showers.
Gul Rahman, an afghan detainee had died of suspected hypothermia following 48 hours of sleep deprivation & half naked in extremely cold room.
+
2 - walling: This torture involves encircling the detainee's neck with a collar or towel, & slamming his head against the wall.
Detained abu jaafar al-Iraqi had suffered with an edema, while Ammar al-baluchi' brain was damaged & arteries were burst.
This is Afia Siddiqui - MiT trained neuroscientist, ex-wife of Ammar al-baluchi, & mother of three children.
On Mar 2003, Dr afia & her 3 kids; Ahmad, Maryam & Suleman were kidnapped by CIA in collaboration with Pakistani government from Karachi, Pak. She was sold for $5k.
+
She was transferred to baghram airbase of Afghanistan the same night & brutally tortured during the interrogation.
During the imprisonment in baghram, Afia was kept for 5 years where she was repeatedly abused, tortured, & raped.
+
An inmate next to her cell recalled: "I began to hear chilling screams of a woman. For 2 days & nights I heard the sound of the unbearable screaming. I felt my mind collapsing. They told me there was no woman. But I was unconvinced.
This has to be one of the most horrific things I have ever witnessed in my life.
When I was in Bagram airbase (the mini America of Afghanistan during occupation) in 2002, US soldiers brought in a young Afghani taxi driver. He was just 22. His name was Dilawar.
+
He was brought just four days before the end of Ramadan. For four days, he was chained to the ceiling by his wrists. Each time the US soldiers would beat him, he would cry: “Ya Allah!”. So they kepy hitting him to hear him seeking Allah’s help until they ki!led him! I saw it.
+
When doc examined his body, she said she had seen similar injuries on people ran over by a bus. He was kil!ed while saying Allah, during Ramadan!
As he was struck, he said: “I won, by the Lord of the Ka’bah & tyrants will fall!”
