I had a doctor appointment run late and I wasn’t able to drive to Uvalde to cover tonight’s board meeting in person. But the pain and conviction to make sure there’s accountability is palpable even through the livestream. @TPRNews

@TPRNews During public comments at #Uvalde CISD, Jesus Rizo Jr told the board "at one point or another you're going to have to decide whether or not to hold one of your own accountable." He said he can't understand why Pete Arredondo isn't at least suspended right now. @TPRNews

Brett Cross, the uncle of Uziyah Garcia, said "Innocence doesn't hide or change their story. But innocence died on May 24th." Says they were failed by Arredondo & the school district is failing them by keeping him on staff. #Uvalde @TPRNews

@TPRNews Jackie Cazares' father, Javier, told the #Uvalde school board it's a human right to receive an education in a safe environment.

Another #Uvalde dad who lost his daughter said it was pretty clear what everybody wants: Accountability. "We all know they messed up," he said, in tears. "I had officers from every dept look me in the eye and tell me to trust them bc I was trying so hard to get in." @TPRNews

"How are we supposed to continue our lives here knowing that those people that are supposed to protect us let down our family?" he asked. He stepped in to speak for his mother during the school board meeting and didn't give his name. #Uvalde @TPRNews

Lyliana Garcia, the 16 yo daughter of #Uvalde teacher Irma Garcia, told the school board her oldest brother now has to take responsibility for raising her and her younger sister "for something so preventable." @TPRNews

Lyliana left the #Uvalde school board with a question from her 12 yo sister: "My mom died protecting her students. But who was protecting my mom?" @TPRNews

"This will always haunt me," Lyliana said. "And should always haunt you."

#Uvalde school board has now gone into closed session to discuss several items, including security personnel & a security audit. Will possibly take action after closed session on superintendent's hiring authority & "personnel employments & assignments."
