This #TexasSecession, or #Texit if you will, is a hilarious concept considering it's being suggested by the far-right.

Here's what would happen under a Texit:

Revocation of all federal properties. Those interstate highways? Those are ours - we're taking them back, or you could spend BILLIONS on buying them from us, plus whatever it takes to maintain them. Also, you may want to establish a navy to protect the Gulf of Mexico.

The Republican Party loses 40 electoral votes in 2024, thus practically guaranteeing a Democratic victory. Also, this means two secure GOP Senate seats and 40 House seats disappear, maybe to be replaced by members from the NEW 50th state, Douglass (FKA Washington, D.C.).

This means that you'll be surrounded on all sides by a left-leaning superpower from the north, and a left-leaning nation to the south/west. You'll be in Hell - surrounded by the thing you hate the most.

You'd need a passport to come into the United States, and you'd be subject to international entrance, customs, and shipping fees. The Mexican border is your responsibility and yours alone - you wanna build a trillion-dollar wall? Come up with the funds yourself.

Speaking of funds, since your government likely won't be a fan of federal income tax, your tariffs will be among the worst in the hemisphere. Whether it's importation or exportation, you'll likely need to establish a Bank of Texas and adopt either a gold or silver standard.

And you'll need that standard straight away - if something goes wrong and you need to pay for it, I hope whatever currency you establish will have some kind of immediate value to the rest of the world.

Say goodbye to the Cowboys, the Texans, the Mavericks, the Rockets, the Wings, the Rangers, the Astros, and the Stars; they'll either be forcibly relocated or ejected from their leagues. Make your own sports leagues.

Do you have US military sites with full armories and nuclear capabilities? No, you do not; that's US government property. Build your own, but be warned that our government will NOT take a nuclearized rebel nation lightly; the price of that will be STEEP.

Texit negotiations will be slow, painful, and expensive - you will be an example to future states that want to secede, just like Britain was with the UK. Any Texan who wants to stay in the US, we'd probably demand you pay them an exit stipend so they can afford to move here.

And if you get any ideas of seceding by force, just know that we learned from Reconstruction. You may think your militia is big and badass, but it doesn't hold a candle to the United States Armed Forces. And your leaders won't be let off easy this time.

But hey. You wanna go, Texas? Come to the table.

Get comfortable, while you can.

The negotiations will ensure that comfort won't last long.

Thought of another: Texans who rely on social services (Medicare, Social Security, et al) will be QRF. Any money they've put into them will be wasted, or it'll be negated by the amount that the US will insist Texas gives to pay off their portion of the national debt.

The US Postal Service would cease operation in Texas immediately upon secession. You'll have to rely on private deliverers (UPS, DHL, FedEx), unless of course the US doesn't threaten an embargo against private entities who want or try to do so.
