Missguided’s downfall is simply part of a wider consumer wake-up call as Gen-Z fall out of love with fast fashion.

🔵 @SophieBenson_

inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyl…
@SophieBenson_ 👗 On 30 May, a pink, polyester era for fast fashion retailer Missguided came to an end as the company called in administrators after it emerged its suppliers were owed millions of pounds.
@SophieBenson_ 👗 The news comes in the midst of what appears to be a sea change in attitudes towards fast fashion, illustrated most notably by #LoveIsland bringing eBay on board as its sponsor for this year’s series
@SophieBenson_ 👗 The move is a reflection of research which revealed 20% of Brits buy more second-hand items than two years ago.

👗 18-34 year olds have the highest average percentage of second-hand clothes in their wardrobes

But what do Gen-Z actually think of fast fashion? ⬇️
@SophieBenson_ Layton Ryan-Parson

📍 19, London

“I do think about the ethics of cheap clothing but I’m also motivated by affordability.

“The fall of Missguided isn’t the end of fast fashion – people buy from Boohoo or Shein because the offers are too good to reject.”
@SophieBenson_ Brianna Mills

📍 24, London

“As a fashion designer, sustainability in the industry is very important to me and when I buy clothes from other brands, I am conscious of their values and the process that went into making the garment.”
@SophieBenson_ Kia-Elise Green

📍 19, Buckinghamshire

“I used most of my first wage on a Pretty Little Thing order full of clothes that I no longer own.

"Second-hand shopping is starting to replace my older habits thanks to Depop and eBay."
Are you buying less fast fashion?

Women are 22% more likely to get long Covid than men, despite being able to fight of the initial infection more easily, according to a study.

🔴@BawdenTom finds out why.

inews.co.uk/news/science/l…
@BawdenTom 😷 Women typically mount a stronger immune defence against Covid.

This can also leave them at higher risk of an over-reaction, which can lead to the immune system attacking the body rather than protecting it and contributing to long Covid, researchers say.
@BawdenTom The researchers found ⬇️

👩 Female patients were far more likely to experience depression, physical ailments such as ear, nose, and throat symptoms, musculoskeletal pain, and respiratory symptoms.

👨 Male patients were more likely to suffer from diabetes and kidney disorders. Image

Leave water out for wildlife during the hot weather, say conservationists.

🐝Bees
🦔Hedgehogs
🐦Robins
🐸and frogs

could all be saved from perishing during the UK's mini-heatwave.

inews.co.uk/news/uk-weathe…
Shallow dishes of water can provide a vital refuge for overheated wildlife to bathe and drink during periods of extreme heat.

🦔"It can literally save a life!" say @hedgehogsociety
🐝🪰🦋Even insects such as bees can benefit, and putting pebbles in the bowls of water gives them somewhere safe to land.
