Let's talk about distractions at work. If you are a #softwareEngineer, you run into this DAILY.
A thread🧵
First off, some distractions are inevitable, but most are not. You need to identify what is the most important use of your time.
So, let's talk about what #distractions are out there:
1. Social Media.
This isn't a surprise. We all know the goal of social media is to consume our time. But, the biggest issue for people writing #code is that we have to context switch all the time.
5 minutes on social media means 20+ minutes to get back in the groove of development.
2. Don't have TV or movies playing in the background.
Concentration is key to building great software. The movements and lights changing can easily distract you from your work.
Instead, listen to instrumental music to help you focus. If you enjoy your shows and movies, Identify a break time to focus on watching a show.
Splitting up your time will help separate relaxing time and working time.
3. Stop checking slack.
The point of tools like Slack is to provide a better way to communicate. Asynchronous conversations mean that you don't have to respond right away.
Put yourself on #DND and mute notifications when you need to focus.
