I mean I know I keep saying Christian nationalism is violence, but I have read the National Right to Life Coalition's model law and MY GOD.

The intro has this line:

"The 2nd part is an effective enforcement regime. Traditionally, abortion laws relied on criminal enforcement to make pro-life laws effective in protecting unborn life. However, current realities require a much more robust enforcement regime than reliance on criminal penalties."

They want to build a structure to RICO anyone involved in abortions.

" Laws preventing telehealth laws from being exploited for illegal abortions and new laws to prevent trafficking of minors for illegal abortions will be needed." These... JFC.

Police state. Very much police state. Not even subtle about it.

"Aiding or abetting an illegal abortion should include, but not be limited to: (1) giving instructions over the telephone, the internet, or any other medium of communication regarding self administered abortions or

means to obtain an illegal abortion; (3) hosting or maintaining a website, or providing internet service, that encourages or facilitates efforts to obtain an illegal abortion; (4) offering or providing illegal “abortion doula” services; and (5) providing referrals to an illegal

abortion provider. The penalties for such conspiracy, and for such aiding or abetting, would be subject to the affirmative defense for a physician to perform a life-saving abortion."

............I mean seriously. Full blown surveillance state stuff.

Oh it just continues. Civil penalties in addition to criminal.

"To further ensure meaningful enforcement against the performance of illegal abortions, we recommend establishing civil remedies to be brought by appropriate state or local officials and by persons related to the

pregnant woman. This would permit a civil action against a person or entity that violates any provision of the abortion law for injunctive relief sufficient to prevent future violations; for compensatory damages if the plaintiff has suffered actual injury or harm from the

defendant’s conduct; for punitive damages, payable to the not-for-profit organization of the plaintiff’s choice that provides services to pregnant women; and for costs and reasonable attorney fees."

Forced birth fantasies all over the place, my God.

Patriarchy prevails.

Forced birth legislation is real and scary and they want to make it more aggressive but IT DOESN'T STOP THERE THIS IS A BLUEPRINT FOR A CHRISTIAN NATIONALIST SURVEILLANCE STATE.

You think they'll stop there, when the attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community are everywhere too?

The surveillance state will be weaponized to surveil birth control, sexual orientation, sexual practices, the works. You have to know that Christian nationalism does not stop taking. It keeps going until it has taken everyone who is not the winning denomination.

Whoever is writing the first of many pieces on this, I wish you well--it is a horrifying piece of draft legislation. I hope that you connect it to the broader fascist agenda, but I know it needs to be connected to the specificity of the moment.
