🇳🇬NIGERIAN PASSPORT RENEWAL PROCESS UK THREAD👇🏾

I recently renewed my #NGA🇳🇬 Passport and I've since had alot of questions about the current process so I thought I'd do a thread to share my experiences and what you need to do if you're renewing a #NGA🇳🇬 passport from the UK!

It can be a long and confusing process so hopefully this helps someone!!🙌🏾

STAGE 1 – Get NIN Number (if you haven't already)

Its now legal requirement to have an NIN (National Identification Number) before you can apply or renew your passport.

You will need to book an appointment which is quite easy to do online.

Below is a link which contains all NIN enrolment centres in the UK and all the appointment booking links.

This will cost you £40💷😬 and is payed when booking the appt.

You will need to bring ONE of the following to your NIN Appointment:

◾️Nigerian Passport (Valid or Expired)

■ Nigerian birth certificate

■ Authentication letter from the Nigerian embassy/mission

◾️Government ID for staff of FGN

◾️Any form of Personal ID

Lastly also note that you'll be asked for the following at your NIN appt.

◾️NGA State of Origin

◾️Local Governing Authority (LGA)

◾️NGA ResidentAddress

Have all this information ready and written down before your appt. I didn't and had to call my parents during the appt.🤣

The appointment is straight forward and lasts no longer than 30 mins and you'll literally have your NIN number sent to you via email within an hour of your appointment.

STAGE 2 – COMPLETE ONLINE APPLICATION*

You will need your NIN number to complete this form.👇🏾

Under ‘Passports’ click – ‘Apply for Passport Renewal’ or ‘Apply for Fresh Passport’

Good News is you can now get a 10 year passport as of 2022. This is what I got.😁

Bad news it's more than double the cost of the 5 year one!😭💷

10 Years App Fee= $242 = £197
5 Years App Fee = $110 = £90

Once you've completed the online application form you need tp SAVE (as PDFs) the:

◾️Completed Application Form
◾️Payment Payment slip
◾️Passport Acknowledgement Slip

You'll need to print these and take it with you on the day of your biometric appt. at the embassy in London.

STAGE 3 – BOOK APPOINTMENT FOR NIGERIAN HIGH COMMISSION, LONDON

To book this, you will need your Application ID and Reference Number. (You will have this from completing stage 2)!

These appointments get booked up very quickly so try to book as early as possible.

I've heard cases of there not being any available appointments sometimes so I would recommend constantly checking daily till appts. become available and then book them ASAP!!

I booked in April 2022, the earliest appointments were about 4 weeks away in mid May. I booked mine for June.

When you have booked your Appt. make sure you save and print the Appt slip as you'll be asked to show this before entering the Embassy in London.

I've heard people say you can turn up to the #NGA🇳🇬 embassy in London without an appt.

I WOULDN'T advise taking this risk as I saw ALOT of people turned away on the day I went for not having booked appts.

*STEP 4 – ATTEND APPT. AT #NGA🇳🇬 EMBASSY, LONDON

On the Day make sure you bring the following with you:

1.Printed copies of:

a) Completed Passport Application Form
b) Passport Payment Slip
c) Appointment Confirmation

2. NIN Number

3. Postal order of £20 made payable to the 'Nigeria High Commission, London'.

4. Prepaid Special Delivery Postal Envelope addressed to yourself. (This is how they'll post your passport back to you)!

When you go, they'll check your docs, give you a number and tell you to wait!

Depending on how busy they are, you could be there for some time.
My appt was a Friday so it was super busy!!

I waited just over 5 hours😭 till I was called to do my biometrics (fingerprint and passport pic) which actually only took 5 mins then after that you're basically done!

After ALL OF THIS and almost £260 spent (10 year passport)😭😭....IT FINALLY CAME!!

My appt. was on Fri 17th June and I received my passport via post on Tues 21st June, so the turn around time from the appt. to receiving your passport is rather quick!!

TOP TIPS for the Embassy Appointment

1) Make sure you have all your documents and forms printed, including your appt. slip as they'll send you home if not.

2) Take a pen with you as they may ask you to fill out some more stuff there and they won't give you pens🤣

3) Take drinks, snacks etc as you might be there for a whilleee. If you take food hide it in your bag as they don't actually allow food in the Embassy due to litter etc. I had a sainsbury bag with food etc in it and Uncle at the door wanted to stop me but luckily he allowed it🤣

There's a McDonalds and Sainsburys literally 4 min walk away.

I knew it'd be a while before my number was called, so I went out and got food.

They'll let you out and back in as long as you keep your number.

They won't let you take any food back inside. (Unless you hide it👀😬)

4) If it's a hot day, dress accordingly, if you own a portable fan, bring it as they don't have proper ventilation and their ACs don't work so you might slow cook in there if its hot outside😭🤣

The heat can make waiting more unbearable so do what you need to keep cool🙌🏾

5) Remember when you're in the embassy building you're literally in Nigeria🇳🇬 so please adjust your expectations of customer service accordingly to avoid guaranteed disappointment and frustration😭

6) Pray, remain calm and be patient, keep your head down and follow the staff's instructions, arguments usually occur alot here amongst people and staff so don't get involved or be rude to staff (even if they deserve it😬) unless you want your application to 'go missing'‼️👀🤣🤣

SUMMARY OF COSTS💷

£40 - NIN
£195 - App Fee (10 yrs)
£22.50 - Postal Order
£7.50 - RM Special Delivery Bag

TOTAL: £265

Its very expensive tbh 😭😭.

The 5 year one is much cheaper but I opted for 10 years to save myself the hassle of doing this all again in 5 years😭🤣
