Men of Twitter rending garments (like I am): are you being an ally or are you also self-interested? Either answer ok with me, just errr asking questions
What I mean is do you think something like “this doesn’t affect me but #Istandwithwomen” or “man I’m glad my girlfriend was able to have that abortion when we were 17” or “they’ll come for my body next” or “theocracy will be the end of my country and our freedoms” etc etc
I’m strongly of the position that patriarchy and white supremacy crush all of us.
Put it this way: If you’re pleased you didn’t have a child everytime you put sperm into someone who ovulates you are pro-choice and self-interested.

If you’re glad you didn’t have a child every single time you put sperm into someone who ovulates this is bad for you.
And my radically outspoken pro-life grandfather who had nine children would not believe for a second that people like Mike Pence, Clarence Thomas & Brett Kavanaugh w/small broods hadn’t been killing or preempting babies. He’d think they were sterile or too poor to be real men.
Remember how nobody touched cannabis in the whole U.S. because it was illegal? Me neither. And abortion pills weigh nothing, have no scent, cost $12 a pop, and are legal and even over-the-counter all over.
And yes they know about the ban on sending them interstate to TX. And if you’re wondering how in the WORLD drugs banned in some states can pass across state lines, may I introduce you to cannabis
Just yesterday a female journalist got hit with a furnace of hate here - 1000s of notes from “go fuck yourself” to “you’re worse than Jeffrey Epstein.” I’ve had this too & maybe you have. It doesn’t have to be this way, @Imi_Ahmed says podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/thi…
If you have legitimate criticism for a journalist (one way to check: isn’t death & rape threats), please consider a letter to her editor. Seething tweets by verified accounts provide cover & amplification of no end of harassment & threats you may not see.
And if you care making Twitter a place for meaningful & spirited exchange instead of a snakepit for defeating POC, queer people, & women & shutting us up, listen to @Imi_Ahmed on @ThisCriticalPod.
It has proven good for America that even a few Republicans—Pence, Romney, Bowers—still have sincere, tearful faith in God
Just putting anything ANYTHING in front of Trump and career is a minor miracle
For people who find the invocation of faith in this context either dumb or dangerous, it's worth noting that the "oath of office" is a sacrality & is almost always taken on a holy book (sometimes a law book, Autobiography of Malcolm X, etc). We all need a moral backstop.
Looking for belief systems that have novels at the center of them. Dianetics for Scientology, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged for libertarianism, The Turner Diaries for modern conspiratorial anti-Semitism. Revelation seems to count for Rapture Christianity. What else?
Must be works explicitly intended and labeled as fiction or fantasy.
Book of Mormon and the Christian gospels are styled as history and philosophy.
Some great examples here. I also just remembered that the brilliant @UMorera, who grew up in Chögyam Trungpa’s cult—“Tibetan Buddhism” in the US—says that the 73 pulpy movie “Lost Horizons” was a central text of the faith!
