it was 2 weeks before my 19th birthday. I was r*ped. By my date. I wasn't on birthcontrol and the r*pist did not use a condom. I didn't tell my parents I was r*ped; my home-situation was violently unsafe, and they might not have believed me anyway. My enraged mother

swore she'd máke me kéép the baby if I turned out to be pregnant. I plotted my own death in many, many ways in case I was pregnant. Two torturous weeks later, my period came.

Fast forward to 1998. I discovered my birthcontrol pills had failed as spectacularly as my

relationship had. I was pregnant, and alone. I weighed my options. Abortion, adoption, having and raising the baby myself. After agonizing for weeks, I decided to not terminate the pregnancy.
Being pregnant and single in the Netherlands in 1998 was a real fucking treat...

I was told to get an abortion. I was told I was an unfit mother. I was told I 'should've kept my pants on.' I was told no one would ever want me because I was 'damaged goods.'
I was relentlessly tormented and humiliated at work.
Some people I expected to stick by me, didn't.

Some people I had nót expected to stick with me, did. The only family-member I still spoke with, my father, refused to talk with me for mónths after I did nót get an abortion.
My baby was born in 1999 - they're almost 23 now. If it had not been for my most excellent midwife,

either me, my baby, or both, would've died during childbirth.

By the way, the biological father of my child got two women pregnant, áfter me. The only kid he helps raise is his third one.

My ex helped raise my kid as his own, together with the kid we had together. He was

mócked and shunned for dating a woman with a kid, btw, while I was being told he was WAY too good for me.

Here's the thing though: whatever decision I could have or would have made, it would have been the WRONG one in the eyes of society.

It seems having a uterus makes one a public possession, where one's most excruciatingly difficult and intimate choices are not only up for debate - but subject to public judgement - openly and cruelly so.

Meanwhile, the so-called 'pro-life' people do not give even a partial or singular FUCK about what happens to their innocent babies once they are BORN.

Raising wages? FUCK NO. Lowering rent? FUCK NO. Accesible, affordable (and universal) healthcare? FUCK NO. Abolishing student loans? FUCK NO. Eradicating poverty? FUCK NO. Leaving a LIVABLE planet for the next generations? FUCK YOU.

If you do nót have a uterus, and you néver have to even weigh the options left to you when you find yourself pregnant, unplanned and/or unwanted, I would very much like you to SHUT THE ENTIRE FUCK UP about abortion.

Abortion is healthcare and a human right. This is not up for debate. THE END.
