2/5 He's turning 70 this year and would love to know where the chair is now, and tell the owners a secret about it that they may not know.
The 1972 chair was won by Parch Dafydd Owen for the poem Preselau. This is him, sitting in the chair. (Doesn't he look like a lovely man?)
3/5 We believe he was from Abersoch originally, and studied at Bangor University, but when he won the chair he was a priest in Brynamman (or Ammanford). (Thank you to the librarians at @NLWales for that piece of info.)
He may have had a son and daughter called Gareth and Sian.
4/5 If you recognise him or know the family, or you recognise the chair and know where it is, I'd love to hear from you.
If you don't, please could I ask you to share this thread (especially if you have Welsh connections).
5/5 I would so love to be able to find out where the chair is for my Dad, or maybe even be able to arrange a reunion.
Please share.
Diolch yn fawr. Thanks very much.
🤞🤞🤞
Huge thanks to @chris_bloke for sharing this article from 1989 with more on Dafydd Owen - he worked for Clwyd County Council as a translator had two children Gareth & Sian. Sian worked on Welsh textbooks in Aberystwyth back then.
UPDATE - thank you so much everyone for all the shares and leads...someone is very kindly connecting me to his daughter Siân. I will keep you posted...
UPDATE: Siân and I are in touch! She keeps her father's crown and her brother has the chair. We're planning a meet.
Thank you so much to everyone who helped with this..will keep updating.
