1 July 1972 is the 50th Anniversary of the first Pride march held in London. To celebrate we will be taking a whistlestop tour of the history of Pride around the world.

Since then Pride events have become an international phenomenon. Both celebratory and political, Pride serves as an important platform for raising awareness on issues affecting LGBTI+ communities across the globe.

In Uruguay Pride marches have been held in Montevideo since 1992.

In 2004 (also in Montevideo) activists were successful in lobbying for a dedicated public space. The Plaza de la Diversidad Sexual.

In Israel the first Pride parade was held in Tel Aviv in 1993, although protests had been staged since 1979.

Tel Aviv Pride is now held annually, with estimated attendance of up to 250,000 people.
