Ok. Ffxiv billboard. I need to know if it’s real so that when the California ones go up SUPPOSEDLY TODAY I can keep my hopes high for documenting this in the meatspace. I made some phone calls.

Prefacing this with hot lore on the shituation. Digital nightclub owners in FFXIV bought a billboard. No. Not one billboard. FOUR BILLBOARDS in Houston TX, Austin TX, and 2 unnamed locations in CA to advertise their summer party. This is the only proof of it that exists.

Other than just being a plain fucking weird decision, the boards are being criticized for displaying modded characters (modding is against ToS) and datamined gear, thrusting them into the spotlight along with a very big and official looking FFXIV logo.

The discord also leads to a VERY adult space. Nightclub community in the game leans heavily towards to adult. This could mean a crackdown on modded content (of both the SFW and NSFW variety).

If I got to put my meat bag body in the same photo frame as one of these historical abominations I would rapture on the spot. The Texas ones are up already, SUPPOSEDLY. the CA ones are going up today and I am going to cancel my dress fitting reservation to visit one. SUPPOSEDLY.

Very nice gentleman informs me that their company has not owned any billboards since the 80s. Sent him the billboard picture to confirm and no, it’s not CA. But, he tells me, there IS a SignAd company in Texas.

Could it be? Could the pieces be lining up? Could I slav squat next to the C&D of the century? If Texas billboard real then there’s no reason to dampen my hopes for California billboard real. At this point I’m really feeling the Ritalin. I fire a call to SignAd, TX

At this point no other pictures of the billboards have been provided. The announcement tweets and the picture itself posted by one of the DJs has been deleted.

Holy fuck. Update. Update. So I call SignAd TX and list the cities, however, apparently they don’t OWN any billboards in Austin. But lo and behold, in Houston:

Shaking like a lamb fresh from the birth canal. So we have one confirmed billboard but no traces of the others. I will never in a million years go to this event which has just invited every griefer in NA but I might die if I don’t see this poster with my own eyes

Many people are running the cost of these four billboards, one of which is digital and costs twice as much, and the estimated sum of these rentals floats around $10,000 to $12,000

So we have one confirmed billboard, which seems to be the digital one with pictures taken from all sorts of angles as people start to visit it. Without a second location I can’t confirm that there are 2, let alone 4. Still sitting on my sticky California hands
