So I received my deck yesterday and it’s phenomenal - let me say that to start. I went with the cheapest variant and added a matte screen protector to achieve a less reflective display, and a 1tb sd card that has worked perfectly so far (ill link items below)
Overall happy!
Initial impression: “wow it’s big”, but after sometime in the hands it doesn’t feel much bigger than my Nintendo switch did when I first got it, and it’s truly a comfortable grip to the point that I could see myself gaming till the battery begins to run out and further ☺️
The screen looks great, the buttons are very nice (remind me of an Xbox controller), and the touch pads on the front are a welcomed new feature that being the desktop mode to life …
It’s pretty phenomenal.
I’ve been playing Deep Rock Galactic, Slay The Spire, and a few other
Now when I look at things I don’t love, it’s the software. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just that you need to be willing to tinker a bit for a few reasons.
1) out of the box , my system was defective because:
• adaptive fan controls seemed to only keep the fan on idle no matter how hot it was getting
• my unit would shut off stating low battery even if fully charged
I found solutions on Reddit & thru friends, but it took time.
2) If you’re wanting to play around and configure things to your liking or even want to use the Steam Deck as the full fledged desktop it can be… it will take some getting used to. Not only because this is a Linux based machine but because sometimes it can be a bit stuttery
Overall, I’m super happy with my purchase and I will continue to take my games with me on the go! If you haven’t already and are willing to put sometime into having a great deck experience - pre order one :)
