'What do I need to do in order to get interviewed/hired for a #GameAudio #Job ?'
I get asked this often, so I thought I would share here (a thread).

Disclaimer: please understand this is my personal view/opinion, it is not universally true. But I hope it can still help. 💙
1a) Apply to the offer as soon as you can.
When an offer is posted, the employer receives a manageable amount of applications until it gets too much. You ideally want to be appllying within that short 'early window' to get noticed faster.
1b) If you are ready to apply with all the required elements 'ready to send', you have a potential advantage because you may be reviewed earlier.
This is not always true (hiring processes differ in companies), but early will always give you stronger chances than late.
2a) An online showreel
The most important piece by far. This showcases your skills, experience and style as a creative.
It must show your best sounding work. It can be a trailer/scene/gameplay redesign, or your best work.
2b) It doesn't have to be much longer than 2 minutes, I suppose 1 minute is minimum and 3 minutes maximum.
A poor showreel results in almost no chances to get noticed. No showreel (or a broken link) means zero chance.
Please take extra care testing everything you submit!
3a) Your CV/Resume
This presents your background, education and experience. On top of knowing you better and evaluating the relevance of your profile for the role, employers can use this to drive interesting discussions in interviews.
3b) Nothing is as important as your showreel. A strong showreel with an atypical resume has still great chances to get noticed (my personal opinion).
That said, a poorly presented resume will raise concerns. Making games requires to be organised and able to present info well.
4a) A technical showreel
This shows your skills and knowledge in technical implmentation, systems, etc.
This is mandatory for technical roles, and a definite plus for any role. Not mandatory unless required, so do not feel too worried about it.
4b) In addition to the creative showreel, demonstrating your ability to work in game dev can give a lot of confidence to the employer.
It could make the difference between 2 people with excellent creative skills.
5a) Expect a sound design test
If the previous elements have interested a potential employer, you will likely be going through a few first interviews and be given a sound test.
This is to see how you work with a given task and how you react to feedback.
5b) Failure to deliver a good test will usually end the process, so make sure to take it seriously!
6a) Patience
Game developpers are extremely busy, they have to prioritize their limited time.
Hiring is always considered high priority, but please understand there will be other issues they are dealing with daily, as well as an overwhelming amount of applications.
6b) We review every application until we hire. It takes a lot of time. Please be patient :) 🙏
7a) Interviews
Once all the above points have all been successful, you will have interviews with the team.
Essentially the employer wants to see how you would fit within the team and work environment.
7b) Being natural is your best approach, keep in mind that if a team is not for you, it's also in your best interest to realize that. Forcing an impression is detrimental to everyone.
It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, which is often underestimated!
8) Good luck! 💙And never give up. 🙏
Don't expect to land a job on your first attempt.
It took me years to get a job, I got LOTS of rejections. Most people do. It was upsetting but I kept practicing and improving my skills/reels until it interested someone in the industry😀
8b) If you fail, ask for feedback.
If you cannot make it to any first interview, this means you need a stronger reel. Ask for feedback on your reel on twitter for example, some people in the industry offer help here! 😀
