House Republicans are pushing an extreme constitutional amendment that would - among other things - allow the legislature to ban abortion with NO oversight from the courts or veto from the Governor.
THREAD on what's ahead and what you can do to help raise awareness and stop this
Last night, Senate Republicans passed a constitutional amendment that would declare that there is no right to an abortion. It sets the stage to enact extreme abortion bans, like in Ohio, which led to a ten-year-old rape victim needing to leave the state to get an abortion.
The amendments would also make Voter ID constitutional, eliminate the office of Lt. Governor, require election audits, and make it easier to get rid of environmental and consumer regulations. It's a right-wing wet dream.
As Constitutional amendments, this legislation has to pass the legislature again next year. Then it goes up for a public vote.
There is NO VETO.
What you can do: 1) Contact your Senator and House member. It's probably going to pass today, but the louder you get, the more they know they'll pay a price next time. 2) Ask any candidate you want to vote or donate for: How will you vote on this amendment?
3) Campaign, donate, and vote for candidates that will oppose this legislation and stop it next session. 4) Raise awareness in your social circles. This could be on the ballot by May 2023. If it is, we must defeat it to protect women's rights and free and fair elections in PA.

I need to talk about exceptionally well-intended people who give money to candidates who have zero chance of winning but sound great on Twitter.
You're lighting money on fire.
I need this thread to spread so people understand how to better use limited donor funds.

In the PA House of Representatives, unfair maps locked in a Republican majority. Thanks to the new fair maps we got, that can change. The new maps are challenging but fair: In 2020, Biden won 102, Trump 101. In other words, even in headwinds, we have a live shot at the majority.
What we need to compete is money. We do not have the deep-backed pockets of groups like the Commonwealth Partners fund, which have virtually unlimited money to spend for conservative causes that would decimate public schools and undermine worker protections.
I was on Facebook late last night when I saw the video in my newsfeed. Like everyone who watched it, I was horrified. You can’t help but see a video like that and not immediately leap to the worst conclusions.
I appreciate the Mayor and Chief's support of an investigation and promise to keep the community informed. I am confident the city administration will take the appropriate actions concerning the officer’s duty status until the investigation is completed.
There is no question that an investigation into the actions depicted is needed, and I say this for multiple reasons.
