Friends when we get to the consent calendar, I, as part of the Christian Formation and Discipleship committee, ask that you consider voting to remove A063 from the consent calendar. 1/#gc80
The cmte 16 rec on the resolution is an end run around the due process of the House. A063’s substitute is a copy of D096, which we voted to refer to the next GC because this work deeply matters-is Gospel work-and this convention does not have the time available to perfect it. 2/
The means matter. The process that allows a committee that has not received a resolution to take a resolution from another committee and make it their own technically follows the rules, but does so in a way that is contrary to our aspirations for the life of the church. 3/
No one on our committee argues that the work described in the resolution is not important or valuable. Committee 14 engaged in careful and prayerful discernment around D096 and heard, in both Houses, that the work matters so much that we need time to do it correctly, and time 3/
was not available during this convention. Work must be done to consider the best possible processes for the ministry of the church, and there is concern about centralized power as represented by desk structures. 5/
The only change from D096, the author of and one of the endorsers of which serve on cmte 16, is removing explicit reference to D030 and adding a line about reporting structures. 6/
I am happy to talk more about this if anyone has questions. Let’s act like the church we aspire to be. /7
