For non-poker players: While it’s a fun narrative, she did not read her opponent for the exact hand he had. This rarely happens in poker and is correct even more rarely. The hand is controversial: her hand should almost never beat his, even if she does think he’s bluffing.
But novices often rely on instinct. They don’t always have consistently logical thought processes. I have witnessed several hands where beginners explained themselves with “I thought he was bluffing” or “I wanted to see his hand” despite not being able to beat a bluff.
