Last night I stepped in between two woman and around 7 guys who were making them feel very uncomfortable during the @NICKIMINAJ set at @WirelessFest. They were being grinded on, boobs grabbed, being touched under their shorts even when they told this group NO multiple times.
Needless to say these guys were pissed that I stepped in between them, but I was not going to let that keep happening right in front of me. Women deserve to have fun and dance at a concert without being afraid. The guys had the audacity to ask if I wanted next.
I kept asking the guys, did you ask permission? Did they consent to this? They shrugged it off and said that the women looked like they were still having fun. Then they had the nerve to ask me if I wanted in.I stood my ground in between these guys and these women the rest of set.
I didn’t enjoy the concert as much as I wanted but it was worth for those two women to hug me and thank me repeatedly after because they didn’t know what to do. They kept saying no but the guys weren’t listening so they gave in because they didn’t know what else to do.
This is a complete failing on those guys & the people who taught them it was ok to act this way. No one deserves to be sexually assaulted in any way or in any manner when just wanting to dance and have fun at a concert. I may be little, but I was ready to fight for these women.
We need to do better. People have lost all sorts of decency when it comes to appropriate behavior when being around people after COVID. But this has always been unacceptable. I hope other people will be encouraged to step in and do &say something if they see anything like this.
Is it too much to ask for to be safe and listened too when wanting to have fun with friends? I’m glad these women were safe at the end of the night & got to enjoy Nicki. I would do it all over again if put in the same situation. #WirelessFestival#BeSafe#SeeSomethingSaySomething
