Our office, Kizhakku Pathippagam, is about 100 metres from the AIADMK headquarters. As soon as I saw the news today morning that OPS was on his way to the HQ instead of Vanagaram, I expected violence and instructed women members of our staff to stay at home. (1)
Within minutes, I could see visuals of people beating each other with sticks. I called and informed people that the entire office was to be closed for the day for all - men & women. (2)
I was expecting OPS's car to be stopped well before Lloyds Road, and him taken into preventive custody, but his vehicle was allowed to go near the HQ. (3)
All along pitched battles were on, while a few OPS men broke into the doors, formed a cordon, and took OPS inside the building. (4)
Riot police should have been there well before this but until that point, no police was seen in the vicinity. This is total intelligence failure and complete dereliction of duty by the DMK government and the police. (5)
A child could have guessed that today's action by OPS was going to result in avoidable violence. In the end, many were beaten up, some cut with knives, a lot of property damaged, and many person days of productive work wasted. Perhaps the DMK government wanted this to happen. (6)
