What has surprised @DavidPriess the most about the hearings?

He was not prepared for new information we've learned--after last hearing, the bar is high. He calls it "must see TV."

#January6thCommitteeHearings
@DavidPriess .@mollyereynolds thinks the hearings show what Congress is capable of when a committee has the resources.

@nkorpett praises the coherent narrative the committee has been able to show. She's done investigations before.

#January6thCommitteeHearings
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett .@rparloff echoes some of what he laid out in his recent piece on the Hutchinson testimony. We learned a lot in the recent #January6thCommitteeHearings

lawfareblog.com/guns-insurrect…
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff In the back of his mind, @rparloff is worried about how this kind of hearing could be used in the future (for ill).

#January6thCommitteeHearings
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff "If Bannon was trying to do an 'Oliver North,' he really fell on his face."

@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic A Material Supporter asked @rparloff about his piece on Bannon --- I'll let his answer stay in the room!

lawfareblog.com/why-steve-bann…
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic .@mollyereynolds and @qjurecic are letting us know the latest changes to the #January6thCommitteeHearings schedule.

Tomorrow at 1pm ET, and none on Thursday!!!

(And join us tomorrow for a Twitter Spaces debrief!)
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic .@qjurecic talks about how DOJ is "a bit of a black box right now."

Some ask questions about 'why hasn't DOJ looked into this or that?' But the answer is that we do not know what they have looked into (yet).

#January6thCommitteeHearings
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic Material Supporter question: what is something you want answered by the hearings?

@DavidPriess wants to know even more about the activities of the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys on that day.

#January6thCommitteeHearings
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic .@mollyereynolds would like to know if sitting members of Congress were involved in the planning or execution of January 6. She thinks we need to know this in order for Congress to rebuild trust within itself, across the aisle.

#January6thCommitteeHearings
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic .@rparloff would also like to know more about the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys. Tomorrow's hearing is supposed to draw a link between the militias and the White House. He looks forward to hearing what the Cmte has to say.

(Roger is our resident expert: lawfareblog.com/conspirators-p…)
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic .@qjurecic says the witness tampering in the hearings "could have been lifted right out of the Mueller Report." Trump was not charged at that time because he was the president; he is no longer the president.

#January6thCommitteeHearings
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic Why didn't authorities know about January 6 ahead of time, or do anything?

@qjurecic has written about this before!

lawfareblog.com/why-didnt-fbi-…
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic (And if you want an even more in depth look on that question, @qjurecic gives extensive interviews in #TheAftermath, hosted by @nkorpett

lawfareblog.com/aftermath-podc…)
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic .@vidabjohnson also wrote about the failure of law enforcement before and during January 6 (including participating in the insurrection).

In article AND podcast form: lawfareblog.com/policing-and-s…
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic @vidabjohnson .@nkorpett recommends this article when thinking about any possible criminal charges against Trump.

@ARozenshtein and @jedshug didn't think it was in the cards; now they think it can and should.

lawfareblog.com/cassidy-hutchi…
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic @vidabjohnson @ARozenshtein @jedshug A question from Twitter, who constructed the gallows??

Hope you're in the room to hear the answer! This question really got @rparloff thinking...

#January6thCommitteeHearings
@DavidPriess @mollyereynolds @nkorpett @rparloff @qjurecic @vidabjohnson @ARozenshtein @jedshug Of the pipebombs found on January 6--- @benjaminwittes says that there has not been for a while a bomb case that has gone unsolved for this long. But he says that the FBI will not give up; he has no doubt that we will get an answer to this Q evntlly.

On June 7, Majid S. Khan, a Pakistani detainee at Guantánamo Bay whose sentence ended on March 1, filed a 30-page petition for a writ of habeas corpus against Biden, Defense Sec. Austin, and L Okamura, the U.S. commander of Joint Task Force-Guantanamo.

lawfareblog.com/guantanamo-det…
The suit demands that the Biden admin approve Khan’s transfer anywhere outside of Pakistan, given that Khan could never return to the country without facing “substantial risk of persecution from myriad... actors” against whom he cooperated.

“For the same reason [substantial risk],” Majid S Khan's petition notes, “his wife and daughter must be safely resettled with him in a country other than Pakistan.”
