I always find this line amusing. We know how much of a social / mainstream media misrepresentation there has been around the pandemic, mainly to create a favourable impression for Labour against all odds.

Throughout the pandemic, National's calls for planning, goal setting and trying to create as much certainty as is possible were shut down as "You want to open the borders without restrictions and kill grandma!" That misrepresentation has stuck so much it has become a "truth".

In January 2020, both National and ACT proposed strengthening our border. Labour shot it down and did not act for a further 2 - 3 months.

In March 2020, New Zealand's border response consisted of a pamphlet. Imagine how much better off we'd have been if we listened to National in January?

This is before we get to the MIQ failures and they are so massive I'm not even going to link them all. This one stands out, because 1 year in they still didn't know that keeping a flight crew in the CBD was a stupid idea.

It is not good management, skill or anything like that from Labour. It is blind luck and the use of a blunt instrument to try and avoid a virus getting into the most isolated country in the world.

And this is even before we touch on the massive cost of that instrument.
